Web 3.0 originally called Semantic web by it's inventor Tim Berners-Lee is the third generation of internet services for websites and applications and is focused on using a centralised machine-based understanding of data server's to provide a data-driven and Semantic Web.

This Web is to create more intelligent, connected and open websites systematically. There is more to what it was created for even though it is yet to be implemented. But before expatiating on what Web 3.0 will be, how about we tell you a little about the Webs that precedes the third generation Web (Web 3.0).

After a world of no electricity, power and internet, Web 1.0 was created. It was the first reliable Internet in between the years of 1989 - 2005 but had a lot of limiting features.

Back then using Web 1.0, creating your own user page or commenting on an article you read wasn't a feature in it and everything done on the Web was by a selected few or directories. We could guess it served it's purpose as at then even though it wasn't all that great.

The Web of our present that came about since 2005... This is the Web we are all making use of now that would be overtaken by Web 3.0. This web from our own experience, we would agree that it is way better than life with Web 1.0.

One major thing this Web did better was make Internet more interactive most especially when starts up were enabled to build interactive Web platforms like the Facebook, you tube, Wikipedia and many others we know.

With that in mind, let's get down to what Web 3.0 is going to look like in the future to come if it is generally accepted.

This generation is yet to be accepted generally and has not yet been implemented, so there have not been any main definition. The transition from Web 1.0, to Web 2.0 is amazing but web 3.0 is to reshape the world of web, technologies are currently being developed to create smart home appliances using wireless networks and the Internet.

The idea behind the semantic Web (Web 3.0) is to emphasize and store information in a way that helps teach a system what specific data means. In other words, a website should be able to understand words put in search queries the same way a human would, enabling it to generate and share better content. This system will also use AI; semantic web will teach a computer what the data means and then AI will take the information and use it.

To add more explanations, Web 3.0 is proposed to be more decentralized, trustless and permissionless, and use the Artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Decentralization

While Web 2.0 computers uses HTTP to find information stored in a fixed single server, Web 3.0 could store information in multiple locations simultaneously and this makes it more decentralized.

Trustless and Permissionless

Web 3.0 has been made trustless as it makes network allow participants interact directly without having an intermediary to trust. It has also be made permissionless as it allows anyone to participate without any authorization from a governing body.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

In Web 3.0, computers will be more similar to the human brain in the search engine, computers will imitate how humans learn and improve its accuracy accordingly. So with this Web, computers will produce faster and more relevant results.

Web 3.0 information will be more connected and ubiquitous as participants will be able to get access to multiple applications. These are some of the positive sides of the upcoming third generation Web.

With the good sides of this Web, there will also be some significant risks in using this Web. While it is difficult already to police the growth rate of cybercrimes, hate speech and misinformation... It will be more difficult in a decentralized structure because every participants would lack central control as in Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.

Even though Web 3.0 is yet to be accepted generally... It should be noted that early signs of the shift has began especially with the change of the Facebook to Meta in year 2021. Web 3.0 is proposed to be immersive experiences in the metaverse and its picking up steam already.

The study of the Web 3.0 is an interesting one that you shouldn't stop at just reading here so we hope that you understand what it is more as we would share a video with you.
