Seize the Minutes

Good morning blurtisians, trust we are all doing great. Every hour, minutes and seconds are very important in our lives and that of blurts.

The journey of life takes many turns and twists. Every so often we are blessed to catch a glimpse of the prize… the destination and fulfillment of God’s promises. There are also moments when we are so far down in the ravine we cannot see the sun, much less the Promise Land. So, what do we do at each step of our journey? Lord Chesterfield once said:

“Take care of the minutes and the hours will take care of themselves.”

What God has promised; He will deliver on. We can rest assured that He is faithful to those who remain faithful to Him. But should we simply wait and pass through this life an idle traveler taking in the scenery but leaving no trace of their passage? I believe we should ‘take care of the minutes.’ We need to use each moment of each day to spread the love of God and leave the road we travel better off for us having walked that way.

Jesus taught that one day we will give an account of our lives. In Matthew 25:35 he tells of God speaking to His faithful servants. He says, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” In the minutes of our lives, we find moments of usefulness. We find opportunities to feed the hungry, give refreshment to the parched, open the door of our lives to a stranger, clothed the needy, tend the sick, and visit the imprisoned. We can pass these off as ‘not our calling’, but one day God will ask us why we missed the opportunities He gave us. We can justify our lack of charity on our busyness, but what area will God place more importance on? We must be open to being used by God. We must not allow the minutes of our lives to melt into hours and days without us looking up from our selfish pursuits. Remember, our goal is to hear the words: “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” (Matthew 25:34)
