God Uses Unlikely Vessels|| Dios usa vasos improbable [ENG-ESP]

Jesus called twelve very different men to himself. The disciples came from different backgrounds. They had different personalities and different strengths. Even amongst the group, there were men who would not have gotten along if it were not for Christ.

There were zealots, a tax collector, commoners, poor, and slightly upper class. Yet, at the mixing of God, these men became the core of the Lord’s earthly ministry and the establishment of the church.

In today’s reading (Matthew 10:1-15), we hear of Jesus sending out these twelve varied men to preach the gospel. These were not men who would instantly gather others to themselves. Nor were they men the world would see as having authority to teach.

Afterall, what does a fisherman know of heavenly things? The world is about to discover that God does things a bit differently. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29 tells us,

“Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him.”

Had Jesus chosen twelve men who were polished and formally trained, I think many of us would be too intimidated to follow. As it is, doubt shouts at most all of us that we are not qualified to do what God has called us to do. Every time I feel this doubt creeping up in my mind, I remember that God does not use the perfect. He uses the willing. Jesus spoke to the learned men. He interacted with the Pharisees and the religious leaders. Scribes listened to his commands yet failed to take them to heart.

The ones the world thought were perfect for the job failed to open their heart to the call. Instead, it was the brash and unrefined, the timid and the over-confident, the ones with checkered pasts and the sinners who received the Messiah. And it was these men whom Christ sent out to the nation of Israel to spread the good news.

More than simply sending them out, Jesus equipped them for their mission. He didn’t send them out to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who had leprosy, and drive out demons without giving them the power to do so. If he had, these simple men would have been laughed out of town or branded insane.

God never sends us to do something He has not empowered us to do. He knew all our weaknesses before He placed the calling on our life. He understood how we would struggle and provided what we would need to overcome.

Do you feel unqualified? Join the club. Can you imagine these former everyday and lowly men standing in front of crowds preaching and healing? What power does a fisherman have over demons? What authority does a despised tax collector have to teach in the company of ‘proper’ Israelites? What right does a housewife in small town have to explain scriptures and encourage through God’s word? Who am I to be used by God?

Aren’t you glad that it doesn’t depend on who we are but instead rests on who our God is? This is the confidence we have: God equips those He sends. Every moment of our lives prepares us for what is coming. Even when we don’t realize it, God is teaching and preparing us. When we rest in God’s authority, God’s ability, God’s strength, it matters not if we are small, common, or weak. There was nothing magical about the twelve men Jesus sent out into the world. They were vessels, willing to be used. No matter what shape or condition your vessel is, you can do everything God asks of you.

Your rough edges will either be smoothed through trial and teaching or used for the beauty of their irregularity. Don’t allow doubt to drown out God’s call. When He opens the door, walk through with confidence – confidence in God’s ability to use even the least of us for His mighty purpose.

Jesús llamó a sí mismo a doce hombres muy diferentes. Los discípulos procedían de diferentes orígenes. Tenían diferentes personalidades y diferentes fortalezas. Incluso entre el grupo, había hombres que no se habrían llevado bien si no fuera por Cristo.

Había fanáticos, un recaudador de impuestos, plebeyos, pobres y de clase ligeramente alta. Sin embargo, en la mezcla de Dios, estos hombres se convirtieron en el núcleo del ministerio terrenal del Señor y el establecimiento de la iglesia.

En la lectura de hoy (Mateo 10:1-15), escuchamos que Jesús envió a estos doce hombres variados a predicar el evangelio. Estos no eran hombres que instantáneamente reunirían a otros para ellos. Tampoco eran hombres que el mundo consideraría que tenían autoridad para enseñar.

Después de todo, ¿qué sabe un pescador de las cosas celestiales? El mundo está a punto de descubrir que Dios hace las cosas un poco diferente. 1 Corintios 1:26-29 nos dice,

“Hermanos y hermanas, pensad en lo que erais cuando fuisteis llamados. No muchos de ustedes eran sabios según los estándares humanos; no muchos fueron influyentes; no muchos eran de noble cuna. Pero lo necio del mundo escogió Dios, para avergonzar a los sabios; Dios escogió lo débil del mundo para avergonzar a lo fuerte. Lo bajo de este mundo y lo menospreciado escogió Dios, y lo que no es, para anular lo que es, a fin de que nadie se gloríe delante de Él.”

Si Jesús hubiera escogido a doce hombres que fueran pulidos y entrenados formalmente, creo que muchos de nosotros estaríamos demasiado intimidados para seguirlo. Tal como están las cosas, la duda nos grita a la mayoría de nosotros que no estamos calificados para hacer lo que Dios nos ha llamado a hacer. Cada vez que siento esta duda asaltando mi mente, recuerdo que Dios no usa lo perfecto. Él usa el querer. Jesús habló a los sabios. Interactuó con los fariseos y los líderes religiosos. Los escribas escucharon sus órdenes pero no las tomaron en serio.

Los que el mundo pensó que eran perfectos para el trabajo no abrieron su corazón a la llamada. En cambio, fueron los impetuosos y sin refinar, los tímidos y los demasiado confiados, los que tenían un pasado accidentado y los pecadores que recibieron al Mesías. Y fueron estos hombres a quienes Cristo envió a la nación de Israel para difundir las buenas nuevas.

Más que simplemente enviarlos, Jesús los equipó para su misión. No los envió a curar a los enfermos, resucitar a los muertos, limpiar a los leprosos y expulsar demonios sin darles el poder para hacerlo. Si lo hubiera hecho, estos hombres simples se habrían burlado de la ciudad o se habrían tildado de locos.

Dios nunca nos envía a hacer algo que Él no nos ha dado poder para hacer. Él conocía todas nuestras debilidades antes de poner el llamado en nuestra vida. Entendió cómo lucharíamos y proporcionó lo que necesitaríamos para vencer.

¿Te sientes incompetente? Únete al club. ¿Te imaginas a estos antiguos hombres comunes y corrientes parados frente a multitudes predicando y curando? ¿Qué poder tiene un pescador sobre los demonios? ¿Qué autoridad tiene un recaudador de impuestos despreciado para enseñar en compañía de israelitas “adecuados”? ¿Qué derecho tiene un ama de casa en un pueblo pequeño para explicar las escrituras y animar a través de la palabra de Dios? ¿Quién soy yo para ser usado por Dios?

¿No te alegra que no dependa de quiénes somos, sino que se base en quién es nuestro Dios? Esta es la confianza que tenemos: Dios equipa a los que envía. Cada momento de nuestra vida nos prepara para lo que viene. Incluso cuando no nos damos cuenta, Dios nos está enseñando y preparando. Cuando descansamos en la autoridad de Dios, la capacidad de Dios, la fuerza de Dios, no importa si somos pequeños, comunes o débiles. No había nada mágico en los doce hombres que Jesús envió al mundo. Eran vasijas dispuestas a ser utilizadas. No importa qué forma o condición tenga su embarcación, puede hacer todo lo que Dios le pida.

Tus asperezas serán suavizadas a través del ensayo y la enseñanza o serán utilizadas por la belleza de su irregularidad. No permita que la duda ahogue el llamado de Dios. Cuando Él abra la puerta, camine con confianza: confianza en la capacidad de Dios para usar incluso al más pequeño de nosotros para Su poderoso propósito.
