A Glass of water before meal: Is it really Necessary?

Good evening blurtisians, trust your day was splendid? It is said that "Your health is your Wealth".

My Mother always has this rule of taking a glass/sachet of water before every meal especially when she has gone long hours without eating. She always reminds me to do this too. She has been doing this for as long as I can remember and this is one of the many ways she loves me.

My mother learnt this when she was growing up. She said she grew up to find it being done in her family and without questioning, she was made to begin to do it too.

I would question her at some point and she said it was for easy digestion. So I started too.

So when I was back today, hungry, tired and like I could eat a whole cow, she said to take water before eating but I wasn't listening. A tired and hungry girl hardly hears anything short of food and rest until her belly is at least, half-filled or she has found a place to put her head. This was me.

Halfway into my food and my Mother's voice began to play in my head. It was as though she was just reminding me to take water before eating and I teased her for reminding me 'early.'

It would take a little longer before she got it and said she had reminded me way before I began to eat.

🥴😳

Some gulps down and some more and I continued my food business only to finish a few minutes later and found that I could hardly walk straight or bend over. It was as though there was a sharp stone put by the side of my belly and it wouldn't let me move freely. It was a little painful. My Mother said it has been the thing she has been keeping me from every time I agreed to have some water before meal.

It took a long rest, a few minutes of belly massage and a cold bath to make the pains disappear. I feel so much better now and I know that if for nothing else, my Mother wouldn't have to remind me to have some water before a meal.

Why take water before meal?
Many people never accepts the fact that drinking water before or after you meal is of great essence. Consuming water before a meal may create a sense of fullness and reduce your appetite. "When you take something heavy, like 16 ounces of water, it really adds this weight and heaviness in your stomach, and it completely quiets that sense of urgency because you're satisfying that hunger hormone. It leads to this sense of calmness and fullness.

When you drink water on an empty stomach, it’ll be faster for your body to absorb it into your circulation.

Water helps you stay dehydrated all day.

Water intake is an essential part to staying healthy.
