Frank Castle a US marine, A really powerful and skilled soldier he sought during the Vietnam War, He was a real family guy, he always put his family first.
He left the special forces just so he could be closer to his wife and kids, this was short-lived when his family was executed by the Mafia, they have seen the mafia-style killing and the mafia decided not to leave behind any witnesses.
This was the event leading up to the Punisher been born. He could not live with himself he went on to seek revenge for his family he felt the law and justice system failed him.
He made a choice not only to avenge his family but also to fight crime.
