Rice is a popular staple food in Nigeria and it is most have on the menu of almost all Nigerians especially on Sundays. A typical Nigerian family do not joke with Sunday rice. It bangs different when rice are prepared on Sundays, a time when everyone is home and having fun with each other. Sundays are special days in the week just like any other ceremonial day.

I can't really say how it became a tradition to eat rice on a Sunday in Nigeria. It has been like that for a long time even before I was born. Even though it came into Nigeria as a foreign food, it has become a popular and widely recognized food in Nigeria. It has its position as the most common and popular meal. There are local variants of rice in Nigeria too such as Ofada rice, but rice is mostly imported due to large demand.

As popular as rice is, the price of buying has increased and making it difficult for a lot of people to afford. In Nigeria, the increase in the cost of rice could be associated to the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and other economic factors. Nonetheless, Sunday rice is almost unavoidable in most families.
