Homemade Kimbula Buns

The ingredients needed for this recipe are flour, butter, sugar, salt, yeast and lukewarm water. We were so happy to find all of them at home. This is how we made it.

First, we let the yeast be active. To that we added sugar, yeast and lukewarm water to a bowl and cover it for about 10 minutes..

You can add yeast directly to the flour and mix without doing the above procedure if you are sure that yeast used is in the good quality.
We put yeast, butter, flour, salt and lukewarm water to a bowl to make the dough.

Next we started mixing them together to get a soft dough. We were careful when adding water because the dough can get sticky by adding too much water

After kneading the dough for about 8-10 minutes the dough became softer.

After that we covered the dough and let it rest to make it became double in size. There is a warm climate in Sri Lanka so it took less time for that than a country with a cold climate.

Then we started to make the sugar syrup. Sugar syrup is used to attach sugar cubes on the buns so it should be sticky.

After 30 minutes the dough was ready and looked like this

We cut it to five pieces to make 10 buns because there are 5 members in my family.

There is a special way to handle dough to make kimbula buns. We made our 10 buns in that way. Then we apply sugar syrup on them and coated them with sugar cubes.

Finally, we put them in a tray and bake them for about 10-15 minutes in the oven.

This is how they looked at the end. They came out very tasty as the ones we brought from the shops and were really nice with the tea made by my mum.
