At last, I can post some photos of my family’s Ozoni (New Year rice cake soup)!
In Hokkaido, where I come from, Ozoni are very different in each family as our ancestors came from different regions in Japan; such variation cannot be seen in other prefectures.
My great-grand pa was from Ishikawa prefecture, so the Ozoni in our family is a bit similar to Ishikawa-style. The broth is made with Surume(dried squid) and kombu. As far as the ingredients go, we put daikon, carrot, Shimi-dofu(freeze-dried tofu), konyaku, burdock root, Ikura(salmon roe), naruto and rectangular rice cake. It’s garnished with Yuzu zest and Mitsuba.
