Cooking apples are the best varieties for the apple pies and cakes because they have some grade of acidity that together with sugar produces the flavour that makes you fall in love with apples pies and cakes. Today, I am making an apple cake with Granny Smith apples and spices.
Ingredients:
- 3 Granny Smith apples
- orange rind from 1 orange
- 2 eggs
- 200 grams of sugar
- 125 grams of butter
- 1 cup of milk
- 200 grams of self-raising flour plus 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder
- a pinch of nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- evaporated milk optional
Preparation:
- place all the ingredients on the table
- in a bowl put the eggs and the sugar
- add the vanilla esence
- mix well for about 10 minutes until it gets creamy
- warm the milk and add the butter to dissolve
- add it warm into the eggs and sugar
- mix well
- add the flour and the baking powder all sieved
- add the orange rind
- peel the apples and remove the centre
- place the mixture in the tin
- mix the brown sugar, cinnamon and the nutmeg
- place the apples on the top of the cake and cover with the brown sugar
cook in the oven for about 40 minutes and place it in your favorite dish. You can cover with the evaporated milk or you can place the milk to every piece cut.
