Our ancestors didn't have access to a lot of things that made life/cooking easier.
1 box of Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix made according to package instructions.
**if you don't have the mix, yeast bread dough recipe below.
Spread dough on jelly roll pan or ex
large cookie sheet. May make two pans. Let dough rise 1/2 hour.
I don't put any cream or butter mixture on the dough. Many do.
If making cherry Kuga, mix 1 large can of Wilderness Cherry pie filling with 1 can unsweetened cherries, drained (double if making 2 pans--don't be stingy on filling). Spread on top of dough.
Hand mix 3 sticks of softened butter & 4 cups of flour until crumbley.
Cover fruit with crumbles then drizzle cream or half & half over the crumbles.
Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes until lightly browned.
I don't sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over the Kuga once it is finished baking. That is optional!
You can use any kind of fruit...
BLUEBERRY is my favorite!
**Yeast Bread Dough:
2 eggs, well beaten
¼ C. milk, warmed
1 pkg. (or 1 TB) dry yeast
¼ C. warm water
½ C. butter (1 stick, melted but not hot)
¼ C. sugar
½ tsp. Salt
3 C. flour, more if needed
- Pour lukewarm water, yeast, and sugar in mixing bowl.
2 . Add melted (not hot) butter, warmed milk, salt and beaten eggs. Mix well.
3 . Add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each cup. Add more flour, if necessary, to make a smooth dough, and turn out onto a floured surface.
4 . Knead very lightly.
5 . Let rise for about 1 hour; punch down and let rest for 10 minutes.
6 . Spread dough in 2 well-greased 9-inch round or square cake pans, pushing it up on the sides as for pie crusts.
Let the dough double in size.
