I explored my backyard garden and I thought of herbs that I could harvest a little for me to make a warm drink.
Red ginger
I examined the red ginger plant. Not really grown up yet. But I can take a little of the tuber to make a drink. I ran out of stock of ginger in the kitchen. So this can help me.
These are fresh red ginger from my garden. In the markets of various regions in Indonesia, the price of red ginger is more expensive than the price of ginger that we usually use. Red ginger has a spicier taste and is commonly used as an ingredient in cough and cold medicines.
Because the taste is stronger, so a little ginger is used quite a few times for food or beverage.
Lemongrass
Moving on to the next crop, there are lemongrass plants with their sharp leaves. At least we have to be careful so that our skin does not bleed because the thin but sharp leaves are cut.
Lemongrass has a distinctive, authentic, and characteristic taste. Usually used in traditional dishes to add a fresh and fragrant taste character.
Pandan Leaves
Indonesian people use pandan leaves as fragrance and coloring in food and beverages.
Pandan is like vanilla which can blend in with many things. And also like green matcha powder.
So in this drink recipe, I made using pandan leaves to add a delicious smell.
Spiced-Hot Chocolate Drink Recipe
The idea for this drink started when I saw a lot of cocoa powder in the kitchen. I remember before I went crazy on coffee, I used to make this chocolate drink a lot.
So this time I'm exploring a new recipe with chocolate drinks. I season my chocolate drink with ginger and also pandan leaves.
The Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon of grated red ginger
- 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
- A pandan Leaf
- 5 tablespoons of sugar (better to use palm sugar or brown sugar)
- 800 ml of water.
How to make
Trust me, we just need a job stirring and paying attention to it until it brings it to a boil.

Prepare all the necessary ingredients. The first step is grated ginger.
- Step 2
Combine all ingredients in a cooking pan. Then add water.
- Step 3
Cook and stir until it boils.
- Step 4
Remove and serve while warm!
About taste
The taste is good, but not as delicious as a puree ginger drink. If ginger drink offers something fresher, then this drink with cocoa powder offers something a heavier, creamier taste.
For great flavor, try to use high-quality cocoa powder. Low-quality cocoa powder will only give this drink an unpleasant aroma and taste.
