THE OBEREDU RIVER

Okay.... Back to the topic.

The Oberedu river is a water body located in Amaigbo in Nwangele LGA, Imo State Nigeria.

It is one of the greatest and most cherished gift nature has given to the people of Amaigbo. It has been treaced that it flows from and also into the Imo river.
This river has been a major water supply to the host community and also neighboring communities and villages.
However, this river is so unique and advantageous as it grows palm wine trees.

Palm wine is a natural alcoholic wine that has a sweet taste when freshly tapped. It is noted that it improves eyesight, improves breath milk, aids in growth, improves hair and skin, fights cancer, etc.

The palm wine tappers in Amaigbo wakes up very early in the morning at about 4am so as to rush down to the river to extract fresh palmwine which the in turn sell to potential buyers.
This is mostly based on demand as people who are in need of this natural and nutritive wine do book and even pay in advance for its supply.
The palm wine is used as the official drink in any traditional gathering or occasion or like, village meetings, traditional marriages, coronation, etc.

It's soil is very fertile as people also plant roots and herbs, tomatoes, vegetables, etc along its banks.

Lest I forget, the Oberedu river is also a haven for different species of fishes.
