?aving been relieved almost completely of the wound that morning, he lay
in his chair. ?e was awakened from his day dream as his PDA beeped.
Picking it up and peering into the screen, he saw the reminder of his
sister's release.
?er photo was peering at him from the screen and his mind flashed back
to sometime in the past when they had been living together at Miami. They
had often joined their friends at the beach either in going scuba-diving or
snorkeling. ?is sister had been working at a law firm and her boss had a
liking for her. ?e was a law man by name, Rodney ?oodgate. ?n a certain
afternoon when the firm had just relieved everyone from the day's work,
he had called her into his office and delayed her with some documents till
the firm was completely empty.
?aving a wad of dollar bills in her face, he put a hand on her shoulder and
proceeded to fondle with her breasts but a dirty slap was lurched across
his face.
She had yelled that day, flinging the money in his face.
“Fuck you, fuck your money and fuck your job”
Rodney ?oodgate was in a fury and in a week's time, there was a court
hearing as she was in a rage and went further to sue him for one of the
crimes which sounds similar to se?ual molestation.
?oodgate produced enough witnesses and was e?onerated and she ended
up locked in a Correctional Facility for perjury. Dean had sworn to avenge
her since he was a rogue into shoplifting and car-jacking. ?e had in his
possession, a Colt 45 automatic and an MP5KN SM? and was out for a
kill. ?oodgate had narrowly escaped unknowingly, as he had moved to his
other firm in New York.
?aving missed his chance of getting back at him, Dean went into self-
amnesty, put away his weapons, took all the cash he had made and
abandoned his gang. ?e came down to New York and got a job as a gla?ier,
living a decent citi?en's life.
Now, his memory of ?oodgate had been restored and he felt bitter about
it. ?aving an irate feeling rush through him, he picked up his PDA and dialed a certain number as a name was displayed. Making a call to the
contact, the call was rejected followed by a beep so he fed in a te?t
message to the recipient who was named Smalls.
“Comrade Smalls, ?new Eddie amongst mother? at For ?od's Sake”
Michael Smalls was his closest pal at Miami who often supplied him and his
gang with ammunitions and weapons. Smalls had a wide chain of drug
dealers and clubs at his e?pense and was swimming in cash. ?e also funded
Dean whenever he lacked cash and this strengthened their bond.
The te?t was a secret message Dean used whenever he needed hardware
and cash. ?ne coming across it will be forced to say that someone's new in
their hood. That was the slang of the slums.
The message was actually read by the use of the first two letters in the
bracketed sentence.
“new eddie amongst mother” and it read thus, “need ammo”
For ?od's Sake was a nickname to one of the churches where they met.
They used the church to avoid suspicion for a large duffel bag being handed
over in a public bar or eatery.
?aving sent the te?t, he felt the urge to go refill his gas tank so he got up,
slid into his baseball shirt and walked out of the house locking the door
behind him. ?e dragged his muscular bulk into the car and sat behind the
wheel then reversed into the tarred road, engaged gear and ?oomed off
with Michael Jackson’s Thriller streaming from the car's stereo.
