The New York Police had advanced in their technology in e?uipment
tracking. They had purchased a machine from ?ermany which they called
‘T?E ?ECT?R’, and it had a build like a microwave machine.
It functions in a way that whatever part of an object, weapon, bullets or
samples you have, it is put into a tube which spins for a moment then on a
screen at the top, it displays a map of the world with the location of the
mother object or weapon which the bullet was fired from. It was an
outstanding machine and had brought the NYPD to a bright side. It had
helped them recover a lot of rifles and the suspects involved in using them.
?ence, the police didn’t have to spend weeks or months searching for a
killer or weapon when the machine could help them do that in minutes as
long as they had a sample.
Sergeant ?arner sat in a lounging chair fiddling with his cell phone as
Specialist Bren worked on the samples. After going through the processes
of manipulating the ?ECT?R, a map came into view with a red dot blinking
on a certain building. ?arner looked up at the screen and walked over to it. Zooming into it, he
saw the building and the street on which it lay.
It was Ravenston Condominium located in the Brooklyn part of the city
and stood on Degraw Street towards the coastal area. There were also
some other condominiums located in this area and it seemed the area
should have been given a different name instead.
?hen he was scanned the whole region charily, he turned to the specialist
and nodded his head in awe, grinning at the corner of his mouth.
“Nice work Bren”
“Thanks Sir”
“I need you to copy down this address in a sheet of paper for me, okay?”
“?kay Sir, I’ll do just that”
Few minutes after, ?arner walked out of the lab holding an A4 sheet in his
left hand while his right swung forth and back unconsciously as though he
was marching in a band.
?is mind drifted back to the meeting they had held at the Chief's house,
the previous night. Mayor ?oodgate, Lieutenant Moore, Captain Leo
Sparrow and he were the only ones who had been there. They had
discussed on the assassin and their progress with the investigation.
“There is no murder carried out without a motive”, Moore had
emphasi?ed. “?e have to know his motive and then lie in wait for him
before he knows it. ?e don't know if he would strike again, but if he does,
?od help the victim's soul”
It was 14:00 that afternoon when ?arner walked into Moore's office,
holding the sheet of paper. The air in the room seemed busy and he the
lieutenant had been surely busy with the cupboard at the corner. Moore
shot a glance at him and then, proceeded to put away some of the
numerous documents which decorated his table.
“?ello Sarge, you got something for me?”
“Yes Sir”, he said, handing over the A4.“?ood work, Sarge, I'll get the result to the Chief... ?et yourself
prepared because first thing tomorrow morning, we head for the condo”
“?kay Sir, have a good day”, and he left.
Moore drew out a .38 Special from his desk’s drawer and wiped it with a
silk handkerchief he had left there too. ?e opened the cartridge
compartment and found it empty then, took out the bo? of ammunition
there and loaded it full with fresh rounds, waiting to find their way into
someone’s body. ?e flipped the safety switch off and on then laid the pistol
on the blotter. ?e got a murder investigation to carry out and he would
need every little help available.
