For those who do not know, Colleen Hoover writes mostly romance stories but in this tragic romantic thriller, Verity, she steps away from her usual writing style to delve a little into some mystery and thriller. As much as I enjoy reading her books because they are down-to-earth, relatable and captivating, I was not prepared for the twists, spooky and tragic parts in this book.

Verity is a tragic romantic thriller that focuses on an unconventional love triangle between a bankrupt writer, a bestselling, popular author and her husband. The bankrupt writer, Lowen, needed to pay her bills and avoid financial ruin. So she got a job offer from Jeremy Crawford, husband to the bestselling author, Verity Crawford. Jeremy hired Lowen to complete his wife's books because she was unable to due to injuries.

When Lowen began her work at the Crawford home, she unexpectedly came across an unfinished, chilling manuscript written by Verity. She initially hid it from Jeremy because it would hurt him to read the contents. But when Lowen fell in love with Jeremy, her decision changed as expected. Never joke with a woman in love. Lowen released the manuscript to Jeremy which had an unpleasant, domino effect leading to a twist at the end.

I enjoy reading books that mix genres and Verity is in this category. It's a good mix of some mystery, romance and thriller. This book is shorter than other Colleen Hoover books, about 336 pages long and captivating.

When I started reading, I had difficulty putting the book down. Easy to read, straightforward and creepy. I was determined to finish it within a day because it roused a lot of emotions in me which was uncomfortable. If I was a crying person, I would likely bawl my eyes out all through the book. LOL!

For the mystery/thriller parts, the author impressively executed the suspense elements. Some of the scenes were spooky and unnerving. All the characters in the book, especially the main three, are somewhat psychotic and deranged because normal people would not do the things they did. The portrayal of Verity as a psychopath was an interesting part of the book! (No spoilers).

Colleen Hoover thrilled me in this book and I commend her for it. If you love a good mix of mystery and thriller with little romance by the side, you will enjoy this book. I give it a 4 stars out of 5 and will definitely recommend it.
