The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 39, Post #5

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 39:21-23

We knock out another chapter today so if you are still with me, congratulations for your tenacity!

The end of the chapter talks about how God used his khased (steadfast love) which he showed to Joseph in prison. For that same love the keeper of the prison did as Potiphar had done. He put Joseph in charge of everything in the prison and then sat back and enjoyed a worry free life.

Note also that the text mentions the name of God, which some texts render as the Lord. They may as well just say "the God." Do you know the founders of Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity? For the most part, even non-believers know what names those faiths worship. Something called the Spanish Inquisition somehow eliminated Ha Shem (the name) from all English texts of the Tanakh, and the followers complied.

Today's reading

English

But YHVH was with Joseph and showed him steadfast love and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison. Whatever was done there, he was the one who did it. The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was in Joseph's charge, because YHVH was with him. And whatever he did, YHVH made it succeed.
