These writings are my own daily thoughts of short passages from the Bible. Follow along and keep me active in writing everyday. Maybe we will make it through the whole Bible.

Hebrews 1:1-14

The book of Hebrews reveals Jesus in his supremacy. I used to think this book was an old testament book because of the name "Hebrews", but it is really about the gospel and Jesus. One of the key points is the supremacy of Jesus. I guess the Bible used the word "Supreme" way before the fashion designer skat boarder James Jebbia.

Designs change and people change and the world changes. There are some things we would like to change but they seem to never change. Other things we wish would never change and they are the things that change. However the love of Jesus and the truth of the gospel never change.

The gospel promise began from Genesis and was spoken through the prophets in many times and many ways. Finally Jesus came and spoke through his life and words. Jesus is God's son and through him all things were made and have their being. Verse 3a says, "The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." My own son asked me, "how can God be three in one?" This verse answers pretty well. It is because Jesus is the radiance of God's glory. Some people describe the relationship to the radiance of the sun. The sun is light and energy and gas. Some feel the heat. Others see the radiance. It is the same sun. Through Jesus we see and know God. He saved us from our sins "providing purification" and he sits at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

He cannot be compared to the angels because God never said to the angels, "You are my Son..." Jesus is God's firstborn. When he was born the angels sang, "Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth." All of God's angels worship him. The angels came as messengers on earth to bring the good news of Jesus. He sits enthroned in heaven and rules a kingdom of justice. In the beginning he laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of his hands. Every nation and kingdom and thing that has come to life has come from his hands. Just as he brought them into being they will all perish. Like a garment that needs to be changed he will roll them up like a robe. As we study the universe and the stars we see more clearly how this will be. Even the stars are not forever. They will all be changed, but Jesus will never change. His years will never end. He sits at the right hand of God and rules over all. This Jesus is worthy of praise and worship and adoration. No angel or spirit can give what Jesus brings. Jesus brings salvation and eternal life.

The world is perishing. The things we worry so much about today will be gone and meaningless in the future. All that remains is love and a love relationship in Jesus. As the word of God reveals Jesus we are called to respond to Jesus and worship Jesus. I pray to see Jesus and the radiance of his glory. The world shines in a temporary fashion, but Jesus shines forever in his kingdom of light. His radiance is forever

Passage Hebrews 1:1-14
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"?
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God’s angels worship him."
7 In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire."
8 But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy."
10 He also says, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
11 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
12 You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end."
13 To which of the angels did God ever say, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"?
14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?
