The state-of-the-art international standard cricket stadium will be in Purbachal of the capital Dhaka. The National Sports Council and the government have also allocated space in this regard. BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon has said that the construction of an international cricket stadium with a capacity of at least 50,000-60,000 spectators will be completed in Purbachal within the next two years. Visible work in the east was scheduled to begin this month. But now it will start back next winter. The name of the proposed stadium with state-of-the-art facilities is 'The Boat - Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium'.
The stadium is equipped with facilities ranging from cricket academy to indoor, swimming pool and gymnasium. There will also be five star hotels. The stadium will have a capacity of at least 50,000 spectators. The BCB inaugurated the model of the stadium on February 8 in the presence of ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar. The first meeting of the project implementation committee was held at the BCB office at noon yesterday. A five-member committee comprising the chairmen of various standing committees of the Bangladesh Cricket Board has been formed by convening Mahbub Anam, one of the top officials of the board. Mahbubul Anam is the convener and the other four members are four board directors Jalal Yunus, chairman of the media committee, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, chairman of the facilities committee, Sheikh Sohail, chairman of the disciplinary committee and Advocate Anwar Hossain, chairman of the purchase committee. Apart from this, three more will be included as members of the committee. There will be a civil engineer, a chartered accountant and a lawyer from BUET. It was decided at the first meeting yesterday that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will start occupying the stadium from this month. Then visible work will begin in the winter ahead. According to the decision of the BCB, the construction work of the stadium will start by November. After the meeting, BCB vice-president Mahbub Anam said, "The first meeting of our project implementation was held. How we can implement the project is discussed here. The Prime Minister has given us this land at a symbolic price. Within this month we will be working on getting possession of the field. Asked when the visible work will start, the BCB director said, "The physical work of the stadium will not be done before next winter." The BCB has already created a concept drawing. To complete it and in it we have to come up with everything we need, from the dressing room to everything we need. We hope to complete the construction of the stadium within two years of the start of work, ”said Mahbub Anam. The BCB aims to make it one of the best stadiums in the world. He said, "We want this stadium to be one of the best stadiums not only in the region, but also one of the best in the world." Mahbub Anam replied, "That will be decided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board later." It’s hard to say soon. It (BCB office) is an institution that is here. I don't think the needs of this field will be met. It (Sher-e-Bangla Stadium) is an international cricket ground. It will be maintained that way. And there will be a stadium in the east. It will be like an academy ground. That means we get two fields. Those things have already been decided by the BCB. There is 36 acres of land, we have thought about what can be done there. So we have to proceed in the way that the architectural design tells us in full.
