Kashmiri wood carving is one of the most delegate and well crafted wooden art. These artists have been doing this art for generations. The wood carving has reached on a whole new level and they make things like wood carved gifts, hand-carved jewelry boxes, wood carved nameplates, and hand-carved decoration pieces. These jewelry boxes have some secret locks. These locks are not visible to the naked eye, very well hidden in these carvings. Some boxes are made of walnut wood and they take 15 to 20 days to complete.
I visited this Kashmiri wood carving artist shop in art & craft village. I was amazed to see the detailed work done on every little piece. Mirror with very minute work done. Sometimes this work is done on one piece of wood but most of the art pieces are completed by joining many little wood pieces. I saw clocks and also some Quranic calligraphy art pieces. They also make different design wood keychains.
I also saw some very unique wood designs. Wood artists make some animals with wood and these are very beautifully crafted. In these animals were dolphin, horse carriage, and bull cart. I also saw a beautifully detailed work model of the Badshahi Mosque.
