Continuando con mi proyecto que trata de recrear a mi estilo obras de arte de grandes artistas de la historia pintadas sobre CD's reciclados, hoy les comparto una pintura inspirada en el trabajo de René Magritte, "El hijo del Hombre (1964)".
Puede decirse que es uno de sus cuadros más conocidos, aunque no es por él que conocí su trabajo. Lo que me llevo a él fue su obra "Los amantes (1928)", la cual pienso representar en mis próximas entradas para el proyecto.
Esta obra tiene un significado particular, en pocas palabras se trata de la vida del hombre moderno (en aquella época), y como siempre iba a estar marcado por el pecado original a pesar de su evolución. Se dice que se trata de un autorretrato, pero como tiene una gran manzana verde en su rostro esto no está del todo comprobado.
Me gustó mucho y es por ello que decidí pintarla, además podría colocar esa manzana en el centro del CD, lo que le da armonía a la pintura.
Les cuento un poco como fue el proceso para pintar al "Hijo del hombre".
Continuing with my project that tries to recreate in my style works of art by great artists in history painted on recycled CDs, today I am sharing with you a painting inspired by the work of René Magritte, 'The Son of Man (1964)'.
It can be said that it is one of the best-known paintings of him, although it is not because of him that I learned about his work. What brought me to him was his work 'The lovers (1928)', which I plan to represent in my next entries for the project.
This work has a particular meaning, in a few words it is about the life of modern man (at that time), and how he was always going to be marked by original sin despite his evolution. It is said that it is a self-portrait, but since he has a large green apple on his face, this is not entirely proven.
I really liked it and that is why I decided to paint it, I could also place that apple in the center of the CD, which gives harmony to the painting.
I will tell you a little about the process to paint the 'Son of man'.
Primero he preparado mi pequeño desastre creativo en la mesa, y me he puesto manos a la obra. Trato de tener siempre a mano mi caja de óleos (protagonistas de mis pinturas), una paleta de colores para mezclar, en este caso es una bandeja de anime (obvio el reciclaje ante todo); aceite de linaza y un pequeño envase para poder limpiar mi pincel y diluir un poco los óleos, mi pincel y por supuesto, un pequeño paño para limpiar el pincel y otro para evitar manchar toda la mesa.
Como siempre he utilizado un CD de música reciclado con una base en pintura al frío color negro. Al estar seca, he trazado con lápiz la silueta de mi obra.
Inicié pintando el fondo en azul grisáceo mezclado con otros tonos de azul. La obra original tiene el cielo con nubes grises y opacas, pero en el momento yo me fijé en una imagen que por ediciones se veía en estos tonos y me gustó bastante (a veces es complicado conocer el tono real de las obras de arte porque en internet circulan miles de ediciones y además el lente de una cámara no siempre captará el color original de las mismas).
First I have prepared my little creative disaster on the table, and I have got to work. I always try to have my box of oils (the protagonists of my paintings) at hand, a color palette to mix, in this case it is an anime tray (obviously recycling above all); Linseed oil and a small container to clean my brush and dilute the oils a little, my brush and of course, a small cloth to clean the brush and another to avoid staining the entire table.
As always I have used a recycled music CD with a cold black paint base. Being dry, I have traced the silhouette of my work with pencil.
I started by painting the background in grayish blue mixed with other shades of blue. The original work has the sky with gray and opaque clouds, but at the time I noticed an image that by editions was seen in these tones and I liked it a lot (sometimes it is difficult to know the real tone of the works of art because in Thousands of editions circulate on the internet and also the lens of a camera will not always capture the original color of the same).
Utilicé un pincel plano de cerdas duras para dar ese efecto de nubes. Tomé un poco de blanco y comencé a esparcirlo dando pequeños golpes a la superficie, dejando algunas zonas más oscuras que otras para dar esa profundidad.
Aquí no importaba mucho que se estropeara la silueta del personaje en algunas zonas porque más adelante esto sería arreglado con los demás tonos.
I used a stiff bristle flat brush to give that cloud effect. I took some white and began to spread it by tapping the surface, leaving some areas darker than others to give that depth.
Here it did not matter much that the silhouette of the character was damaged in some areas because later this would be fixed with the other tones.
Como les dije, el borde de la silueta se vio un poco afectado por el cielo nublado, pero esto se arreglará más adelante. He pintado las partes blancas de su camisa y la corbata con un tono rojizo.
As I told you, the edge of the silhouette was slightly affected by the cloudy sky, but this will be fixed later. I have painted the white parts of his shirt and tie with a reddish hue.
Para la manzana he utilizado varios tonos de verde para dar algunas luces y por supuesto pintar el tallo y las hojas que le acompañan.
For the apple I have used various shades of green to give some highlights and of course paint the stem and the accompanying leaves.
El rostro lo pinté con un tono piel, haciendo sombras con marrón. Para el cabello usé ese mismo marrón mezclado con un poco de negro y finalmente el traje en negro con algunos detalles con gris para que pudieran notarse los detalles en él.
I painted the face with a skin tone, making shadows with brown. For the hair I used that same brown mixed with a little black and finally the suit in black with some details with gray so that the details could be noticed in it.
