Drawing my self-portrait | Erang

in blurtart •  4 years ago

Hi, I'm Erang. I'm not exactly new to any of this crypto blogging stuff, but to Blurt, I definitely am. I'm still trying to get the hang of it, and would probably need help getting around relevant tools.

I'm Erang.

First off, an introduction. If you came from either Steemit or Hive, we have probably already happened across each other. I'm a digital art hobbyist from the Philippines, particularly interested in painting portraits, emotive subjects, and other illustrations. At present, I like exploring portrait surrealism. In fact, I'm trying to improve myself in the craft and to build a nice enough art portfolio.

A few years ago, vectors and vexels through Photoshop and my mouse were my main interests. As I now own a Note 10+, I switched to painting with my phone and using MediBang Paint for Android as my primary application. Clip Studio Paint for Galaxy and Autodesk SketchBook are also some of my go-to programs, but I don't use them as much as I do with MediBang.

Making art is a sideline to me. I work full-time in the computational science field. My job includes writing codes, undertaking experiments on physical world simulations, researching and working on high-performance computing, and sometimes dabbling in deep learning.

After long, tedious hours at work, it is painting that keeps me grounded. I loved drawing as a kid and have since consistently and casually drawn when given the time. This year, the pandemic has given me enough reason to pick the pen again and continue with my art journey.

The artwork above is actually my self-portrait.

The girl in the drawing? Yep, that's me. I added a twist to reconcile with my current style. I love sunflowers, but hate painting them. I love butterflies, but only in pictures. I shudder to think even touching one. Yellow used to be my favorite color. I love life.

Basically, I'm trying to translate some of my personality into this self-portrait.

So maybe expect more art posts from me.

I normally post my art processes or stories about my works in my Hive account. So I guess you can expect quite the same in here. I'll be posting my artwork here and tell a story about it.

To give you an idea about what kind of artworks I make, the following are some of them.

There are times I record my drawing process into a timelapse. It's a tricky business for me, though, because I would forget I was recording at all in the first place. Some of my timelapse videos have skipped frames because of this.

To compensate and, because MediBang for Android -- which I religiously use -- has no inherent timelapse recorder, I save progress shots of my work every time I would remember and compile them into a GIF. Like this one:

Will you hear from me often?

I sure hope you will! I sometimes get held up by work and other errands and thus have no avenue to do art or write posts. But I'm looking forward to posting here some more artistic stuff.
