I’ve been working on a new series of glass cabochons inspired by coral reefs and marine life. For this series, I’ve been experimenting with embossed soft glass and enamel powders, murrine mosaics and flameworked glass and enamel beads.
The goal for this particular piece was to create a low profile implosion or relief in a flat disc or cabochon that could be set into a silver bezel. This disc was created by melting a large gather of clear glass, mashing it with a brass stamp, and applying gold leaf and enamel powders. After annealing, the disc was coldworked and set into a hand forged, chased silver bezel.
More pieces are in the works - here’s a glimpse of my workbench and layout space with bowls and bowls of beads and cabs. Next up is a more organic piece…..
I think it's safe to say you've captured a bit of the sea wherever you roam. Thank you for explaining the process I learned something new today.
Thank you!
