THE DISGUISED ENEMY... Part (1)

Mum and Dad's work was very time consuming so they usually left home in the early hours of every morning. Since their job was more important to them than I was, we only spent time together as a family only on some rare weekends because they left home very early and came back late at night after I must have slept.

My parents were so proud of me because I often told them I was growing up to become the first female president of my country during the early moments of my life we all spent together as a family before I got admitted into boarding school.

I spent all my life in boarding school from my nursery to secondary education and hardly came home except during holidays which I mostly spent with Aunty kedei’s family, mum's elder sister who had two daughters who were of my age in Lagos. Since my parents worked round the clock, going home to prepare for jamb entrance examination after secondary school made me felt like a stranger in my own home. My daily activities were observed strictly as if there was a manual that directed my routine, eat, read, and sleep.

They provided surplus of everything that will keep me comfortable at home and even stocked up the safes with hug amount of cash incase I'll need to buy anything in their absence, but none of these things ever contributed to my happiness because they denied me their attention and a parent to child heart to heart conversations I admired in movies and from some of the novels I read.

I had no choice over that, they were my parents, I didn’t choose them neither did they chosed me, nature only gave me out as a gift to parents who prioritized money over their only child.

One lonesome afternoon, uncle John called to check up on me as usual. Uncle John was my Dad's younger brother who just finished law program and was awaiting law school. He had always called and visited my school regularly without my parents approval.

To be continued..
