As students, after completing our secondary school education, the next step is to prepare for university. It is assumed that Anyone who wants a bright future should have a bachelor's degree in any field of their choosing.

Students apply for courses in the University based on their parent's wish, peer pressure, passion or on false standards they have set for themselves. The thought of getting into the University makes so many people very happy for various reasons which I may not know. Some people just want to go as far away from home as possible, while some people want to take the opportunity to try out some of the things they have been fantasizing about over the years.

The University environment can be very cruel, harsh, inconsiderate, brutal, and heartbreaking. But that doesn't completely define it; it can be so many things depending on the individual living the moment.

People hear about courses any just blindly apply to study them without proper research and investigation. This can be very challenging for some people because at a point you may be caught in a dilemma. Often times these problems are suffered by the individual and may result in depression if care is not taken.

Students who apply to study a course that was chosen for them by their parents often regret it years down the line. The course might be too difficult for them to handle or they may discover that they lack passion and interest towards the course of study and it can be very bad for the future of the person. Parents should allow their children to make important decisions for themselves.

For the students who apply for a course because their friend also applied for it, this is not advisable. Different people are built differently and nothing can change that. Doing what you like does not make you less of a man or a reasonable person. We should always follow our mind and passion. You can only effect changes in a field you are truly passionate about and that is what matters in reality.

CONCLUSION

In a country like Nigeria parents only want their children to study things like medicine, engineering, law, and economics. They forget that every functional society requires other fields. If everyone is a lawyer, engineer, accountant, doctor, who will be the archaeologist? who will be the historian? who will be the anthropologist? Who will be the agronomist? who will be the farmer? who will be the primary school teacher? We neglect so many fields and that is bad for our development.

Most people travel abroad because they have functional systems. The systems weren't put in place in one day. We need each other and we need to be diverse.
