Child suicide bombers in Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad have risen 11-fold, according to UNICEF. According to the UN children's agency, Islamic militant groups are misleading children into suicide and destruction.
According to a UNICEF report, in those three African countries where there were only four child suicide bombers in 2014, the number has risen to 44 in 2015. Manuel Fontaine, UNICEF's director for the West and Central Africa region, told a news conference that children were being misled or forced to become suicide bombers.
UNICEF reports that of the 44 children who took part in suicide bombings in 2015, 21 were from Nigeria, 21 from Cameroon and two from Chad. A total of 44 children took part in 40 attacks Eighty-five percent of the children who took part in the suicide bombings were girls, the report said.
