David and Goliath

Or should we say Bucket and Military Overland Truck.

You may not know who Bucket is. Bucket is the name I have given my 80's VW Transporter Double Cab or VW Doka. It is something you throw all you friends and toy into and head for the beach.

I took this photo is March 2019. Each year I drive from Accra, Ghana to the Western Region of Ghana for a music festival called Asa Baako, meaning one dance. It takes about 7 hours to drive there and usual involves some sort of break down for incident with police road blocks and being a white driver. But we carry on. This year me and a few friends decided to go stay at an ecolodge part of the time and then join the music festival part way through.

The last stretch of road to this Ecolodge at Cape Three Points this year was very bad, a lot of mud and very rough. The military truck there was for a German guy who had driven all the way down from Germany. The day before on the same road as we took bucket down he buried the truck where one of those large tires was completely submerged in mud. It took a tractor from the village to get it out. So to say the least I was quite proud of bucket that day for doing what the titan could not.
