If I was the PRESIDENT

If I was the president of my country, for a four-year tenure, the first thing I would do is extend the tenure to twenty years and then stack up money for my re-election in twenty years time.
Now that I have gotten that joke out of the way, let me get down to business.

I know that nothing is ever as straightforward as it seems but I think that a good presidential tenure can around Nigeria’s ill fortunes. Follow me through the pathways of my imagination for a bit here;

FIRST YEAR:

Aim: peace and security, improve the ease and volume of import and export.

Main project: war against insurgency, the building of ports.

Side projects: building and improving inter-state roads in the relatively safer parts of the country.

The full-scale war against the insecurity in the north, and the opening of seaports in all of the southern states that are banked by the Atlantic Ocean. If you know anything about Nigeria you would know that it has been plagued by the Boko Haram terrorist group for more than ten years now, destroying the group would bring peace and stability to the country.
Increasing the number of ports is really a no-brainer.

SECOND YEAR:

Aim: reducing the number of out of school children and increasing literacy.

Main projects: building at least three hundred new secondary schools and thirty universities nationwide.

Side projects: incentivize the learning and teaching of computer programming.

Nigeria has millions of children that are of school age roaming the streets, hawking to survive or even worse, begging to survive. The building of these schools would make a considerable dent in the millions.
I would create a federal government scheme that rewards ordinary citizens that teaches and nurtures computer programmers.

THIRD YEAR:

Aim: ease of transportation and decongestion of the densely populated areas.

Main projects: building a central rail network that stretches across the entire country.

Side projects: building of at least two hundred hospitals nationwide.

The abysmal state of the transportation sector can never be overstated; trains have been out of use for so long that there are now some markets where some people sell their wares on the rail lines.
Lagos State in Nigeria has about 21 million living in it, to put that into context, Lagos has more people living in it than Norway, Finland and Singapore combined. This is really untenable and something has to be done about it.
Nigeria really needs more hospitals and that’s all I will say on that.

FOURTH YEAR:

Aim: improving the energy generation and distribution

Main projects: building alternate sources of electricity generation.

Side projects: clean up the Niger-delta region

Nigeria suffers from inadequate electricity, period.
The Niger-delta region has literally fueled the Nigerian economy for up to fifty years, and how has the country paid them back? Oil spills in their water bodies and farmlands, it is only right that the goose that lays the golden egg should be pampered.

I know this post is utopian, please leave it, a cat fell on my keyboard and wrote it.
