Update Uganda

in blurtafrica •  last month

❤️❤️❤️ Our Bosco has health problems.
He injured his foot a long time ago.
Nothing was broken.
Since then, he has been in pain from time to time and his foot swells up.
The last few weeks have been very painful and he was sometimes unable to walk.
The health system in Uganda is miserable.
It lacks everything, there is no health insurance and often not even a doctor nearby.
For this reason, we have lost many people, including children, in recent years.
Bosco treated the foot with herbal poultices.
When I asked him if he had been to the doctor, he told me the following:
"One month ago someone from neighboring village had a same problem he went to the doctor they injected him and give him tablets, he died in few hours ."

Of course, we don't really know what happened....
but the fear of the doctor was born...
We advised Bosco to walk as little as possible, to cool the foot, to elevate it and to take a painkiller.
At the moment, the swelling and pain have subsided.
We have now thought about sending Bosco a bandage (which we hope will arrive...).
This will allow him to support his ankle in the future.
Maybe that will help. We will see.

That does not look like a recurring old injury at all. More like an infection. Is the area warmer than usual? Is there any redness? It looks like Bosco could lose that foot, and infection could spread to his bloodstream if not dealt with. He needs immediate medical attention, not a bandage.

Of course I told him to go to the doctor. That's all I can do. (I'm not his mom and I'm a few thousand miles away!).
He twisted his ankle a long time ago and has had problems ever since. The brace is not for now, but for the future...
