When light strikes a bright object it shines, it does not grow dark. We Christians cannot therefore make this natural law a lie by refusing to shine. If Jesus has struck you you should shine, both day and night. However, the brilliance of your shine should be more pronounced in darkness, because even a little light illumines and dispels darkness.
We are not merely social commentators who are supposed to complain and analyse the corruption around us, we are to be the light in that darkness, no matter how little we shine. The strength of the light we give depends on our exposure to Christ, the closer we are to him, the brighter we shine by reflecting his light to the world of darkness around us. If we fail to shine, we do not know Christ at all and have no connection with him.
As the Christophers would say: instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle. You are that candle, that light in darkness.
Peace be with you!
