Good evening my wonderful family, it's been awhile I posted due to many challenges including when I visit the family at the cottage and there's no network. But I'm here tonight to share with you some galamsey pits and how it's affecting Ghanaian youths nowadays.
Galamseyers are people who perform illegal gold mining independent of mining companies, digging small working pits, tunnels, and sluices by hand. Galamsey is also referred to as Illegal Artisanal Small Scale mining (ASM).
The pit can be made by manpower or by using machine like excavator.
Using manpower is when the galamseyers use their tools like long chisel, short chisel, shovel and others to dig deep to the ground to catch the goldstone. They dig it like water well about five (5) to ten (10) electric poles down.
