Gaming Origins
What truly are games? Game is any activity of fun that taxes the mind and imagination and progresses so long as certain conditions are satisfied following a group of rules pre-programmed therein. Games were played by our ancestors from the African Koso, Ayo, etc to the European hide-and-seek, Snakes and Ladders, chess etc to the American Monopoly, Scrabbles etc to the Asian Mahjong, Chaturaji etc. Man through time has the propensity to look for something which will help lift the burdens of survival in the society.
Modern Day Gaming
Digital games, of 'ancient' programming languages had a basic platform for instance a character running endlessly and dodging obstacles, or a craft flying endlessly and shooting down opponents for scores. But as time advanced and as the imagination of programmers got crazier; games of complex platforms that included 2d missions with customizable avatars and complexly drawn and powerful opponents, moving forward and you can incorporate multiplayers where real fighting is ensuing in real time (and in some; real rewards).
The Dark Room of Creation
Just like in the Bible, before God created anything there was darkness, I love using a terminal with a dark background😉. So, how do we build games? How do we create a world? How do we craft a universe so that anyone who wishes to participate in that universe, must use an avatar and that avatar must build his/her reputation from scratch to greatness in that realm? I'll discuss that in my next post.....
