The Predicament of Nigerian Youths. Where do we go?

Nigeria is one endowed country, filled with so many natural and mineral resources. It is a vast country with over thirty states and millions of citizens who speak five hundred languages. Unfortunately,in such a great nation, corruption reigns supreme. There is misappropriation of funds and resources and people in position of power who are meant to serve the people use their seats to amass wealth at the detriment of the masses "The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer" is a saying that is well known but that is the absolute truth. So many people find it difficult to eat three square meals a day. Some do not even have a shelter over their head. So many people cannot provide for themselves the three basic needs of man which are: food clothing and shelter which is very bad. There are no jobs as people in position do not create job opportunities for the masses.

Hence there are no jobs and people have to survive somehow,so many ladies have no other choice than to sell their body in exchange for money. Prostitution is on a increase on a daily basis just to have a means of survival. In as much as ladies involve in selling their bodies for money, there are men who also do the same,so it is not only restricted to the female gender alone.

Apart from the fact there are no jobs,this 'get rich quick and by any means syndrome' has engulfed the youths. They see it as a shortcut to wealth as it is very comfortable. Yahoo-yahoo is done at the one's convience as it just involves telling lies to people to be rewarded with money. These days Yahoo plus is also rampant and it is an upgrade from the normal Yahoo as a human sacrifice is used.

ASSU strike is another problem faced by youths in Nigeria. It is an annual festival where higher institutions are closed for several months due to the inability of the government to pay lecturers their salary. Students are left stranded. When two elephants fight,the grass suffers,in this fight between the government and the lecturers,the students suffers. Courses of four years becomes six years or even more. An idle mind is the devil's workshop, during this time, some students involve in all sorts of shady things. This year, strike started on February 14th and till date nothing has been done about it. Only students who have wealthy parents are privileged to go to private Universities or even travel abroad. Children of the poor have no other choice than to wait endlessly for the strike to be called off.

Premature and untimely death is another problem we face. Death is a natural phenomenon and it is bound to happen but there are some deaths that can be avoided. So many people have died due to poor medical facilities and services. Bad roads have also contributed to a lot of deaths.

All of these and many more are problems faced in Nigeria. I do hope that things would turn around for good some day.
