The case for $SPT and $PAL Tokens to move to a Linear Curation Curve

in blurt365 •  4 years ago

In a recent post I talked about the benefits of the Linear Curation Curve for the $LEO token and how this would benefit this community. It is possible for layer 2 tokens built upon the Hive blockchain to alter their rewards curves different to the other layer 2 tokens and the $HIVE token itself. My previous post is here: Manual Curation vs. Autovoting - Linear Curation Curve

After posting about the benefits it got me thinking about how this could also benefit some of the other SCOT tokens built upon the $HIVE blockchain. Let me put my case forward for this change:

$SPT - Splintertalk Token - Splinterlands
The Splintertalk Token ($SPT) was introduced by the crew at Splinterlands to provide an incentive for bloggers posting about the Splinterlands game which runs upon the $HIVE blockchain. Over at http://splintertalk.io you can access the condenser for the $SPT token and upvote great Splinterlands content. Unfortunately, at the moment, the old curation curve is in force and voting early provides more curation rewards than voting later. Again, this is not an incentive for manual curation and lots of accounts have been setup specifically with $SPT staked and auto-voting or following the votes of bloggers who always get larger payouts, resulting in more curation rewards. I think this community would benefit greatly from a linear curation reward model and would result in much better content being produced for the Splinterlands team. I know that @monster-curator and @flauwy manually curate with a large amount of $SPT staked/delegated and downvote other content not related to Splinterlands. This type of effort should be rewarded with a high curation reward through a linear model.

$PAL - PALNET Token - Peace, Abundance, Liberty
The $PAL token was one of the earliest SCOT tokens created to provide incentive to bloggers. Initially there was an airdrop of the token and a lot was sold off. Again, content on $PAL (http://palnet.io) would benefit from a linear reward curve and incentives would be greater for manual curation of great content, rather than trying to auto-vote and front-run larger voters.

Both of these tokens can be traded on Hive-engine.com and staked there. Both of these tokens could be altered to linear rewards resulting in better content on both of these tokens.

I know @aggroed has been instrumental in the creation of these tokens and I have questioned whether moving to a linear reward for both of these tokens would be of any value to these communities. I'd like to hear from any others who feel that this would benefit both the $SPT and $PAL tokens of they switched to linear rewards as the $LEO token has just done.

If you think it's of value, let's ask the question of the wider Splintertalk and PALNET communities.

I fully support this. LEO community loved the change and many of the reasons @leofinance mentioned in their announcement post is relevant for mos of the other Tokens as well.
