Blurt Real Time Cost of Living Indicator: Cheese!

in blurt •  2 years ago

Hey there friends from all over the globe! The previous Cost of Living Indicator item was gasoline. Everyone from around the world was enthusiastic to share the price of fuel. Something that effects all of us to one extent or another.

From @freakeao we learned that gas in Venezuala is about $.50 a liter, some of the cheapest in the world. While on the other side of the spectrum we learned from @hangin that in Australia it was over $1.50 a liter. Here in Thailand we are paying about $1.25 per liter.

If you'd like to learn more about the real time prices of gasoline from around the world compliments of our amazing Blurt contributors check out the comments in the blog post here.

Today's item is about as un-asian as food gets here in Thailand. We are talking about a brick of Cheddar Cheese!

Cheese is often imported and expensive here in Thailand. But I went to Makro the equivalent of maybe Costco here in Thailand; I was looking to buy a bit more and get a better price. If I'm going to splurge on an item like cheese here in Thailand, the least I can do is find a good deal.

So this is what they had. A one kilo block of cheddar, and it's actually pretty good. There were some other brands that were fine aged cheddar but at a much higher price. So I bought this and was it was excellent for a basic "cheap" cheddar cheese.for something basic. It's cost $9.16 for the kilo block.

How much is Cheese like this in your part of the world? To encourage engagement and to learn about the cost of living in real time, I'll be giving out 50% and higher up-votes for those who share in the comments the cost in their location. Please convert prices to US dollars and give your location or country so an easy comparison can be made.

Today's Item from Chiang Mai Thailand: 1 Kilo of Cheddar Cheese = $9.16

THANK YOU

As much as I love cheese now a days in Australia you almost need a bitcoin to buy the best of cheese since covid it has gone up by 300% to 500% I have been told by my brother who is also a cheese lover that it has become a luxury item for the rich .... check out these crazy prices from on line shopping.

Screenshot (391).png

As you can see with the cheese prices it can be anywhere from $15 to $22 US dollars per/kilo of good brand cheese.

Exactly. I remember 10/20 years ago. anywhere in the world for the most part cheese was a very affordable food staple. Now I look under the glass case and the crazy prices and go oooohhhh and aaaaah! Soon they are gonna have those theft detector tags on each piece of cheese just like the expensive bottles of liquor! World is really going to shit. Total destruction of the middle class is underway as we enter a hyper-inflationary global depression. Time to buckle up and make our own cheese!

I really , really love to eat Cheese and drink milk. Bit I must stick to my strict diet of dairy-less foods in order to avoid its phosphorus content which is the root cause on why I ended-up looking like worse than Quasimodo, then also I have to contend with being lactose intolerant @world-travel-pro

Anyway, cheese is expensive here in my country, the real cheeses that is, what people use here a lot are the highly processed "Cheesefood" type of cheese. Most don't mind using these fake cheeses because we all grew up having them all the time that we needed some cheese.

This block of 430 grams of the common processed cheese that people use here is about $3 dollars in equivalent. My mother doesn't buy much of it when we were younger, we use margarine instead.

Wow, that looks like some real junky cheese at rock bottom prices. Less than what I paid for sure. Thanks for taking the time @cryptopie. And so sorry you are not able to Enjoy cheese. Stay strong!

Margarine is about as toxic as fake food gets.

It was cheaper, which is why my mother was buying it instead of the "cheesefood". But from those years until recently I thought that it was butter. 😆
Because of we call it "Dairy" cream.

Cheese has gone up a lot here in NZ - I eat a lot of cheese - Mainland cheeses are pretty good but not as good as the best European cheeses

They make four main types which all cost approx US$11.60 per kilo.

PS - Petrol is US$1.72

Yep, that is one of the main imported cheeses we can get here in Thailand, and finally, something you guys in NZ get cheaper than us here in Thailand....at least for that brand and quality.

In fact, milk and dairy products have increased up to 300% in the last 1 year. That's why you hit the jackpot with your cheese choice. The price of 0,5 kg from the online shop in the picture. When I round it up to 1 kilo, it is 261 Turkish Liras. The price goes up a little more because it is full fat. That's $14.37.

Wow! Would not have guessed that! 300% increase! Ouch. Cheese is slowly becoming a luxury item, anywhere in the world.....

The cheese over there seem to be very expensive
Here in Lagos, it is about $5
Also a litre of gas is very expensive here. It is about $1.2

Hey there! Thanks for sharing about Lagos!

PS - now that you are a witness I'm going to ask: how do you think Blurt is going - my feed not counting reposts only had 20 posts in the past 24 hours - that is pretty dire.
Meanwhile my Flote feed had 30 posts (I'm not actively using Flote but the new improved site is looking much better) - and my Bastyon feed had over 250 - that site feels like it's growing.

Thanks for sharing those insights. Personally, I feel like Blurt is still on the tail end of the downside from all the damage that was done before during and after that 7/7 date. I think soon the downward selling will dry out and it will mark a bottom on Blurt. As far as measuring activity based on one's personal feed; isn't that dependent on the amount of people you are following on each platform?

How do the other platforms look, if you just click "new posts"

This past hour, I just checked and Blurt has about 22 new post this past hour, where hive has about 110. Honestly I don't think that is that bad, based on price, and the fact that Hive really is the original steemit, based on "people/originals"

Bastyon I just counted 14 in the past hour, and it seems their site is geared for one topic, all things "conspiracy" to use "their" term...or alt news....

Flote I haven't looked further at. But yeah. I think how we measure success or failure has a lot to with our perceptions on not only this stuff, but many things in life. Assuming I get it done, I think you'll like my next post....a State of the Blurt Address!

Same count on Steemit was only three posts...lol...and im following 294 accounts...Steemit is just for Korean shitposts these days.

Looking at new posts, Gab is busiest, but Bastyon is pretty busy, i just counted 25 posts in the past hour, maybe you have a filter on? Yes its mainly conspiracy and coronahoax, but not all.

Flote site is looking good but still has no engagement.

I have a soft spot for Blurt because there is a feeling of community, but it does seem to have gone backwards for the past few months

Wow. Didn't even know steemit was that bad. Blurt has a future. Just has some hurdles to get paste. I thing we hit rock bottom on on the 7/7 drama.
