Why is it in the nature of humans to always use the success of others as the yardstick to measure our own success?
Why do we constantly compare ourselves with other people?
Why is man inevitably competitive?
Some people not contented with their vehicle, home, income and so on, not because it is bad but because it is not up to the standards of of that of their neighbors, colleague and associates.
Some people who cannot afford to buy a particular thing, maybe, product, clothings and accessories, food and drinks, etc would spend their last dime to get it because they want to feel among and be recognized among their peers. Which is totally unacceptable. The heart of man is optimally obsessed with competition.
Let's start of by defining what competition means?
Competition arises whenever two or more parties strive for a common goal which cannot be shared: where one's gain is the other's loss (an example of which is a zero-sum game).[1] Competition includes rivalry between entities such as organisms, individuals, economic and social groups, etc.
Competition is the activity or condition of striving to gain or win something by defeating or establishing superiority over others.
Why people are always in a competition?
Almost every aspect of life is competitive. In your business, the person that you do similar business together and that you probably have your office close to each other is working hard to pull you down so that his own business can thrive. In marriage, another man or woman might want to have your husband or wife. All these and more is an obvious fact that life is a competition and one is deceiving oneself to think otherwise.
But, why is this so?
Is it all about being ahead of others?
Or about improving oneself and be better than yesterday.
What are the reasons people are always obsessed with competition?
From time immemorial, man has always been taking advantage of people they are superior to. When you are influential you'd want people that are not to work by your principles and follow your order. The fact that you don't want to be a subordinate to someone motivates you to compete to be ahead. That's a major reason. No one wants to be a second fiddle. The fear that a superior and more successful person would compel you to do what you ordinarily would not want to do will make you brace up and make sure you are also successful.
In my opinion, there's no need for unhealthy competition or rivalry. I don't measure my success using another person's yardstick. To make the world a better place there's no need for Jealousy and envy. Jealousy made most youths get involved in cybercrime just because their pal is driving 2020 Range Rover. They want to feel along.
