2018 was an incredibly poignant year as the world commemorates the First World War Armistice Centenary. In 1918, the first world war concluded after four years of bloody and gruelling combat, the like of which had never been seen before. At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the Allies of WWI and Germany signed an agreement for cessation of hostilities, at last bringing peace after 4 years of conflict.
As a tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, £5 coin was issued by The Royal Mint. The Royal mint has a long standing tradition of releasing collectable £5 coins to commemorate rememberence day. A donation from each coin purchased qas made to Imperial War Museums, to support their valuable work they provide to war veterans and families of the fallen.
The coin was available in Brilliant Uncirculated, Silver Proof and Silver Proof Piedfort finishes. All of the coins measure 38.61 millimeters in diameter. With the BU (cupro-nickel) and silver proof version weighing in at a respectable 28.28g. While the BU had an unlimited mintage, the silver proof had a maximum mintage limit of 3,500 pieces. The Proof piedfort silver coin weighs 56.56 grams, has a mintage limit of 1,500 pieces, and retails for £155. The BU version retailed for £17 with the silver version coming in at an expensive £82.50....
Its only been 3 years since the release of the 2018 coin, and by checkingnout "sold" prices on Ebay, i can aee thatcthese coins have held their value.... which make a change for over priced Royal Mint commemoratives.

Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.
Beautiful coin. I will need to look for these.
Definitely do mate. Some of the annual rememberence day coins are incredibly beautiful. Plus they do look better in person
