Celebrating International Women's Day: coins that commemorate women

Over the years, the Royal Mint has had some spectacular coin designs dedicated to Women. Women from fields including science, literature and the arts. Women have played an important role in shaping modern society, and righlty so, their images and achievements have appeared on coins throughout the years.

With roots stretching back more than a century, International Women's Day seeks to highlight and promote the role of women around the world. It is a day to not only celebrate the often overlooked historical achievements and contributions of women but a day to educate and encourage a greater push towards equality.

ROSALIND FRANKLIN

Rosalind Franklin’s brilliant mind and tireless dedication enabled breakthroughs in multiple fields. Best known today for her research into DNA, Franklin was a world authority on the chemical structure of viruses, as well as coal and graphite.
