"A cup of tea " is a beautiful short story of Katherine Mansfield through the story the brilliant writer reveals the essence of female psychology that a woman can put up everything but she can never tolerate the praise of the beauty of a girl through her husband's tongue.
Philip did not like it that an unknown girl should stay in his household at night.
So , in spite of Rosemary's repeatedly request to be nice to the stranger, he showed no change in his regular attitude . But a remarkable change come over Rosemary when Philip begain to praise about the beauty of Miss Smith by saying "she is so astonishingly pretty. She is absolutely lovely. I was bowled over her. When I came into your room just now. " his panegrice of Smith's beauty pained Rosemary . She silently went to her writing room. She opened a drawer and took three one-way pounds notes. Then she came back and dispatched the girl immediately by giving her a humble gift of three pounds
