Hi Blurtters! Its been a while but I'm back with a review of Netflix's South Korean Horror Series, Sweet Home.
The series, consisting of 10 episodes, is an apocalyptic horror based on the webtoon of the same name. I have to admit that after I watched the trailer I was a little scared and put off watching the series since it's release in December 2020 . However, after watching some of the reviews, especially from those who read the webtoon, I decided to give it a try and oh my gosh what a show!
It's not your usual zombie kind of series but rather people turn into different types of monsters that keep the show interesting as you never know who is going to turn and what they going to turn into. There is a reason behind why each monster is different and I don't want to go in depth with the synopsis as I don't want to give to much away and ruin the show for those that might consider watching it.
The characters are diverse and include stellar performances from my favorites, Song Kang (also known for performance in Netflix's K-Drama Love Alarm) and Kim Sang-ho (known for his performance is Kingdom, another Netflix South Korean Horror Series) and the list continues. The back stories for lead characters add a little something extra to the story line making it interesting and unique from other shows.
The CGI effects are not as realistic as one would hope, giving off an animated feel however I quite enjoyed this as making it too realistic would have made it even more creepy and I would probably would have been too terrified to give this series a chance.
All in all, the gore, the characters, the crazy but well thought out monsters and most importantly the story line gets a solid 7.5 out of 10 for me. I enjoyed this show so much that I'm watching it a second time!
If you've read the webtoon and/or watched the series, let me know what you thought of it. If you are a fan of apocalyptic horrors and haven't yet watched Sweet Home, please give it a shot, I promise it will not disappoint!
