A close-up picture of the palace
This picture was taken in the late 1800's. It was taken near Barton's bungalow in Udawatta forest. That bungalow was built by a white officer named Bartw. It was taken over and measures were taken to settle the owners who were there at that time in the Hantana area. Later, the army officers guarding the palace were allocated accommodation. Now this place has been improved.
So let's look at the details of this picture. There is a Sinhala tile roofed building on the left hand side. You can see it a little bit. That is the residence where the monks of Thewa used to stay. The palace's kitchen is now there. He was in the position between 1964-1974.
This abode was removed from there and the kitchen was built there with the help of Japanese. It was during the time of Heen Banda Uduravana Diyavadana Nilame.
Now the abode is on the upper floor to the left of the palace where the toothless Buddha resides.
Also in this picture you can see a building like a long hall. It is behind the old court. That is the current international museum building. This building is where the king's fund was. .
You can see the lake in the front. By this time, the new temple of Dalada Maliga has not been built. It means the new temple with the museum behind the existing palace. It was built in the first half of 1900.
In the distance, the Dullewa Authority's Dullewa Authority, or the Queens Hotel, can be seen in the distance. Later, in 1948, the British deposed the Dullewa Authority, which was deposed by the British, and took over the Dullewa Authority to the government.
According to a request made by one of this Nilame's sons from the English government, the government gave land from the city as compensation for the confiscated well.
At the time of taking this picture, it looks like the main hall is divided into two, doesn't it. The main hall used to be like that. Now the place where the statue of Madduma Bandara is is separated. Later it was called the Ward Garden. Later, around 1971, due to the protest of the youth, the statue was removed and installed in front of the museum behind the palace.
Here, around 1860, the British installed a statue of an English soldier on a horse. That statue is not in this picture either. That statue was removed. Later, when the statue of Prince Madduma Bandara was installed, it became the Madduma Bandara Park. Later, the part was gazetted under the Pujanagara program as belonging to the palace.
At the time this picture was taken, the statue of Governor Ward had not been installed.
Here you can see the church built by the English in front of the palace as well as the old roads. A row of tiled houses are shown on both sides of the road. This is a precious and rare photo. It was found on the internet.
