World's first 17-year postgraduate Vashinya from Sri Lanka
A letter written to Asela Kuruluwansa Silumina newspaper
Three years after she was born, she set up an email address for herself. At the age of eight, she appeared for the English subject of the Aposa General Examination in 2010 and managed to get an A grade. Without stopping, she created a website at the age of nine, surprising the world and passed the BCS degree in Information Technology at the age of 11, becoming the first person in the world to do so at that age.
She studied the British Computer Society's Certified Degree in Information Technology (BCS IT Degree) for a period of 2 1/2 years from the age of 09 and passed it, adding another priceless achievement to her collection of achievements since birth.
Vashinya Premanand, who passed my milestones ahead of time in his education journey, won a Master of Business Administration from the University of West London in the United Kingdom at the age of 17, becoming the first person in the world to achieve such a feat at that age.
Vashinya broke the record set by USA's Harrison Shaw in 2020 who graduated at the age of 20. Vashinya received the degree certificate for the same at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall on the 21st, attracting the attention of the entire world.
Under the guidance of Vashinya's mother, Lakshi Premanand Shaktivel, who was once a computer instructor in an international school, she created a website on her own before she was 9 years old.
With that feat, she was second in the world only to an Indian child who did the same feat at the age of eight. Before she turned ten, Vishnya obtained an e-commerce and web engineering diploma and an International Computer Driving Licence.
My daughter loves to learn something since she was little. He often touches the computer at home; At least I let him have what he wanted. He watched what we were doing and started doing it in the same way. I realized that even though he is small, he has an understanding of computers. That's how I created an e-mail address at the age of 3 by myself. Since childhood, he loved computers more than dolls. This is how Lakshi Premanand described his daughter's past activities.
Vashinya, the only child of M. Premanand Nadaraja and Lakshi Premanand, a businessman by profession, was born on May 13, 2002.
Born in Kurunegala, her mother and father took steps to enroll her in Unique International School when she was 03 years old. They thought that their daughter should be in pre-school for two years, but what they never expected was the early admission to pre-school.
In one year, she completed two years of pre-school work, giving the first indication that she possessed a high intelligence. Accordingly, the parents took steps to enroll her in the Colombo International School in Kandy when she was 5 years old.
While studying in the first class, Vashinya had more knowledge than the children of the second class. Therefore, he was given double promotion and placed in class three. In class four, he was able to get double promotion again and go to class six. As she got double promotion twice in this way, her daughter passed her general education at the age of 13.
He passed A in all the nine subjects. She passed her A-Levels in science and started studying for a post-graduate degree in business administration at the age of 15.
It is a problem in today's society that many of those who have passed the exams with a high score by focusing only on studying, stay away from external activities. Because of this, we often hear about people who are unable to handle victory and defeat, act selfishly and mess up their lives.
Children who fail in questions with only book knowledge are of no use to society. Vasinya's father understood it well. He did not forget to give his child the opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities along with education. As a result, Vasinya is very good at playing the piano as well as the guitar. She is a talented mini-tennis player who has achieved all-Ceylon victories in piano and organ.
Apart from her mother and father, Vasinya's best friend is Shur the dog. Shurya is on her own when doing educational work. Shur, who is seven years old, goes to sleep after Vashinya. Shurya wakes up Vashinya in the morning.
Vasinya can write and speak English, Tamil, Sinhala, German, Chinese and French. Among these, she can write, read and speak especially English and French.
Vashinya also learned sign language from her aunt Swendani, who worked as a sign language interpreter at the Colombo High Court for a while and is now proficient in it. In 2013, the Central Provincial Council presented her with the Middle Country Abhimani Award in appreciation of Vasinya's educational and external skills. I always worked with a goal in mind. I dreamed of achieving that goal. There is no point in having goals if you don't have the commitment to achieve them. A goal is a challenge in itself. Therefore, when pursuing goals, unexpected challenges come to us. Challengers win if faced with them. I am really happy that this small country has achieved such a victory that it can attract international attention.
