A precious gift to Matara
St. Servaius College 1897
Saint Sarveshas Vidyalaya is a boys' school located in Matara, Sri Lanka. Originally founded by a group of Belgian fathers in 1897, the high school was nationalized in the 1960s and is now run as a public school.
St. Servasses College was founded when the Bishop of Galle, Joseph van Rieth, wanted to create educational infrastructure in the newly formed diocese and sought help from Belgian missionaries. A group including Father Augustus Standardt came to Galle in 1896 and on November 2, 1897, the priests opened an English medium school on a small piece of land on the banks of the Nilwala River in Pallimulla, Matara. In 1896, the school started with five students and within two years it had accommodated 54 students. [
In August 1898, a new building was constructed for the school. As the construction funds came from the St. Servais Jesuit School in Liege, Belgium, the Matara school adopted the name of this patron saint. St. Servais was a 4th century Belgian missionary and one of the first bishops around Tongeren.
A few years later the school was moved to its present location in Fortegoda, Matara. In 1961, as part of a government program to take over private schools, the school was taken over by the Ministry of Education, even though it was under administration. Ruled by the Roman Catholic Fathers until 1965...
Currently, more than 2,500 students are studying at St. Sarvesas College. It was made a National School of Sri Lanka in 1993.

Father Joe Rajapakse
Principal of St. Serves Matara 1945-1965
Footprints of a man of the ages
A great gift given to the people of Matara by the Belgian missionaries, St. Sarvesus School was a great service to the former principal Reverend Father Joseph Rajapaksa who was a man of the age who did immortal service by leading the school to a heavenly era. After graduating from St. Benedict's College in Colombo, he entered the Catholic priesthood and became the principal of St. Servesus College in Matara in 1947. From that day, he dedicated his life for 20 years to bring the discipline, education and sports activities of St. Servesus College to the highest level. During that period, a generation of famous students bequeathed to the world, Reverend Joe Rajapaksa did all these services not for his meager salary but for himself. As an immortal service to the country. Our father is not only a very talented teacher, a college principal but also a peer sports instructor who worked to bring St. Servesus College to the top in the field of sports. He had a good knowledge of cricket, football and athletics. We not only coached college cricket-football players but also played with them till very late at night in our playground. There are no coaches or sports teachers like today. As a school principal, it is a special thing to spend every evening on the playground, not limited to educational activities only. Our father never forgot to teach any subject in a class every day. Reverend Father Rajapasa had a good knowledge of all subjects. Father's favorite subjects were English and Civics. He is divided into race and caste. It is a corner where religious differences have been thoroughly restored. He treated all the students like his own children because of his incomparable qualities. The incompetent children of the classes were kept in the school in the evening and taught their respective subjects. The discipline of the children was 200 percent. Learning is like a game, we Piyatushan traveled all over the city of Matara on his bicycle. Ladies Bike) Whether he went to a house, went to the playground, or went to watch a sports wave, he went on his own foot. A special incident that I will not forget here is that the student who went to see the exhibition of the Colombo method held at Viharamaha Devi Park in 1952 in celebration of his great qualities. This is an era where the country needs principals like Father Rajapaksa.

The beautiful dictator who lit up a school that was about to be closed.....Captain G L. Galappatti
As soon as he hears that name, he is shocked. He is magnificent.
.There is no imaginary beautiful smile on his face. He has no friends on duty.
This is how I see Captain G. L. Galappatti, who was the Principal of St. Servasses School from 1971 to 1986.
I went alone to get admission in Services University for higher education.
When he goes with Pianan, his Goranaduwa will face the inconvenience of Pianan
Because I felt
My father, who wears national clothes, is a professor who wears European clothes
