According to Valmiki Ramayana Ravana is the grandson of Pulasti Muni i.e. the son of his son Vishvashrava. Visvasravaya had two wives named Varavarnini and Kaikasi. Varvarnini gave birth to Kuber. Kaikasi's womb was conceived at an inauspicious moment. Because some demons were in the Naga family.
According to the tradition of the Naga clan, cremation was not done. So, after Sri Ram Ji killed Ravana, although Vibhishana was entrusted with the responsibility of performing the last rites, the people of Nagkul took Ravana's body with them.
They believed that Ravana was not yet fully dead because Ravana considered himself immortal and had the elixir. That is why he knew that Ravana could somehow be brought back alive. But all his efforts failed and after defeat he kept Ravana's dead body in the form of a mummy using many chemicals.
According to this story, some time ago, the Sri Lanka Department of Archeology claimed that a huge mountain with a dangerous cave was discovered in the Regala dense forest. It is called Ravana's cave because Ravana did penance in the same cave for many years. Normally no one goes inside the cave because Ravana's dead body is guarded by many dangerous animals and serpents of the nagkula. Ravana's casket is 18 feet long and 5 feet wide. Even after so many years, Ravana's casket is still safe in the dense forest of Regla. According to the story, the Sri Lankan government has said this. It has not been proven anywhere that the mummy belongs to Ravana.
This is just a statement, research is still ongoing, so it is wrong to say whether it is true or not. More than 9000 years have passed since this event, and we have lost much through many attacks and captivity. So now we take a decision about anything only after the research is over.
