Rama's Bridge: Where Modern Science and Ancient Myth Collide
Historians, archaeologists and researchers of our distant past insist that civilized life on earth began about 5,000 years ago. They point out that there is no hard evidence to support the existence of a culture that preceded the rise of the Sumerians and Egyptians. When alternative historians such as John Anthony West, Robert Schoch, and Graham Hancock suggested that the structures on Egypt's Giza Plateau may be older than currently accepted, their claims were quickly refuted. Unfortunately, there is no written record documenting the date of their construction, so these complex artifacts are placed within the generally accepted timeline of human development and culture.
But what if there is evidence? What if we found a clearly identifiable structure in our written and oral traditions? What if the stories associated with that site are consistently placed outside of the generally accepted timeline? If both the structure and its associated myths were analyzed and both were supported by modern science, could it change the face of history?
Myth or Reality: Rama's Bridge in Hindu Tradition
This may have happened on a site found in India. A chain of limestone shoals is located in the Pok Straits in the southeast of India. A shoal or sand bar is characterized by a long and narrow strip of land usually composed of sand, silt and small pebbles that have been deposited over time. The land strip was once believed to be a natural formation, but images taken by a NASA satellite have shown the land to be a long broken bridge beneath the surface of the ocean. Now known as "Adam's Bridge", it spans 18 miles (29 km) from mainland India to present-day Sri Lanka.

Hindu tradition has long believed that this strip of land was a bridge built by their beloved god Rama as described in the Hindu epic Ramayana. It is called "Rama's Bridge" or Rama Setu since ancient times. Rama is a popular figure in Hindu mythology. The Ramayana, the book that describes his life, is a timeless classic. It mentions a time when gods flew through the air in ships and giants and monsters roamed the earth. Researchers who have analyzed the Ramayana state that it is an extremely ambitious work of fiction. Is it true? Or could the structure described in this Indian classic actually be Adam's Bridge? Several pieces of evidence support the claim that Adam's Bridge is the only bridge described in literature.
