I've lost my voting virginity

in blurt •  3 years ago

I have never in my 36 years of life, have ever voted for anything or anyone, in an official manner. No elections, no referendums, nothing. Neither in Hungary, nor in the UK.
Although I was underage when I was living in Hungary, so I didn't have the power to vote anyways.

This is mostly to do with the fact that the two things I have avoided at all cost in my life, are politics and religion.
At a very early age, my bullshit meter switched right on around those topics, so made sure I have nothing to do with either of those.

I do have a strong faith though, and do my own spiritual practices, but I don't need no religion to tell me what to do.

Anyways, where was I?
My voting virginity.
Today I have made my very first votes here on Blurt. And I'm not talking simple post upvotes, that doesn't count as an official vote, in this context.

I've made my first Witness Votes.

Which are also, the very first votes, in an official manner, that I have ever done.
I know many may laugh and say this is not official vote, but it is as official as it gets for me. I mean voting for someone in a way that it does make a difference.

I am very grateful, as some of the witnesses came on a Telegram call this afternoon, and answered some questions, as I didn't actually have the full picture till then, what a witness is, or what they are doing, or why do we even need them.

I have made my votes based on my personal experiences, as it was very important for me to vote for those who I have had some sort of interactions with. I wanted to vote for real people. People whom I interacted with in some way, shape or form.

Thank you all for doing such a great job.

That's really nice to see this. First, I also never voted, not in Algeria and not in Russia. Still surprised they fine them for not voting in Australia. I just love Russia after knowing that. lol Anyway, I already told you what I'm proud of you about, and this one especially. After learning about all things during the pandemic and after, I'm proud of anyone who never voted ! Just wow about Australia, really crazy lol. Maybe even in the North Korea or China they never pay fines for not voting. I never heard about that in Soviet Union as well. WOW again. WOW. Sorry I'll keep wowing, I'll be Pislog mint hal a szatyorban.lol

Oh i love that you used my weird Hungarian Expression 🐟 and in a perfect context 👏🏻
And yes, we are really lucky to be living in a country where nobody cares 🙏🏻

Whaaaaaat? Is that for real? That is crazy!

Not if you grew up with it. Most Australians find it crazy that people don't vote in other countries. Anyway we all voted the Pentecostal, corrupt arrogant TWATBALL pm out yesterday.. hoorah.

wow. And they call that democracy ? Crazy !

See post today for how I feel about it. You can always pay the fine or do a donkey vote. I know it's not true freedom in all sense of word but at least everyone gets a say... I know heaps of young people who have been dying to hit 18 to vote our current PM out.

My uncle who is 75 has never voted.. he just pays the fine every year. Others draw penises on the ballot paper so vote isn't counted.

WFT? Is that true? That's nuts!!!

I love Russia after knowing that. lol

You didn't love it before? :P

Yeah I know! It freaks people out a ton. I honestly think I'm brainwashed (aren't we all) to like it - this is the system we have and at least everyone gets a say and those that moan about who's in power but DIDN'T vote, well -! I mean, I'm all for freedom and that but there IS freedom because you can totally just put a big FUCK YOU on the ballot paper and it's totally anon and legit - the vote just doesn't get counted and you don't get the fine win win. We've had it since 1924 lol! So it's part of who we are.

This is an interesting fact that I did not know... however I can understand why it works this way. Voting is the main way of exercising the sovereignty that citizens have in democratic systems of law, choosing who will represent them, so it is understandable that they try to encourage people to exercise their right to vote with fines if you do not do it, it reinforces the double conception of voting as a right and at the same time as an obligation. The development of a country depends on everyone and part of this depends on who is elected to be in positions of power, politics is not only politics, it has an impact on daily life.
Me gusta mucho Australia, es evidente que es un país bello y lleno de vida, me encantaría visitarlo alguna vez.
I really like Australia, it is obviously a beautiful country full of life, I would love to visit it sometime.

You'd be welcome here if you visited!

I agree. I know people can't be bothered voting, don't think it matters OR would rather they were free to choose / not forced but this system works and I can't say American or British politics is much better. At least this way everyone from very poor to rich and from every social group gets their say.

So you're no longer eligible to be sacrificed up to the Thames river goddess. She only takes virgins.

Oh damn it. . . I blew my chances 🙈
I may still throw myself in the Thames to see if she takes me. 🧜‍♀️

Looks like we are on the same page with not liking politics and religions but like you I practice it in my own spiritual way like you. Well I am happy you got around to voting for the witnesses you believe and trust in good on you girl :)

but like you I practice it in my own spiritual way like you.

Happy to hear that. I think we all intuitively know what to do. Yes, Ive learned through many books, but Ive adapted them to my needs.
I see people who think for example that meditation is how they see monks in their robe sittimg cross legged. And they say they cant meditate.
Well, i do surelyeditate sometimes with legs crossed, but i also encourage people to male daily habits into maditation.
Washing the dishes can be a meditation.
Bit for me especially walking and singing. ( im actually a terrible singer, thats not what im talkimg about, but just letting the voice out)
But many other way too🙏🏻💜

You are surly right meditation can be in many forms it doesn't only have to be in a church or a temple heck my favorite way of meditating is sitting on the beach under a coconut tree just listing to the sounds of the ocean with a cold beer in hand 🤣

Oooooh, now that sounds like heaven 🙏🏻💜
I don't really drink anymore, HOWEVER, I stand my ground on the fact, that there is nothing like a cold beer on a hot summer day by the beach 🙏🏻

Ahhhh...yeah true paradise and one cold beer is ok with me :)
