If you have 10K Blurt Power, don't vote 30 witnesses!!! Here is why!

Hey Blurt! 🍀

Many, many, many, many moons ago, I did a post about witness voting mechanics.

I would like to recap this, because many Blurtarians with smaller stake are still making this mistake and thinning out their witness vote power because of too many witness votes.

Let me show you the witness vote mechanics using a simple example:

Let us say a Blurt user has 10000 BP in his account:

When he casts 1 witness vote, this witness will recieve 100% of his BP as voting power, so that is 10000 VP.

As soon as this same Blurt user casts a second vote for another witness, his voting power is divided amongst both witness votes, so both witnesses only recieve 50% of the Blurt users VP, which is now only 5000 BP/VP.

If this Blurt user then casts a third vote, his 10000 VP will be distributed amongst all 3 witnesses, so each witness only recieves 3333 VP.

With a fourth witness vote, it is now only 25% of his 10000 BP stake, so each witness recieves only 2500 VP.

The system allows up to 30 votes. If our example Blurt user votes all 30 slots, that he is allowed to, then this means each witness is only recieving 1/30th of his 10000 BP, which is in our example case: 333.33 VP.

As you can see, casting too many votes thins out your voting power and doesn't really help the witnesses you have voted!

CALL TO ACTION:

I usually don't do this sort of thing, but in this case it is safe to say that the witness @etainclub isn't returning after not producing blocks for over 103 weeks! Check out the picture below!

If you ever voted for @etainclub, please remove his vote and make way for the active witness account @openb into the top 30, so he recieves the block producer rewards he really deserves!

Thanks everybody!

Intriguing as sitting on some btc and was thinking to level up somewhat on here, but forgot what exchange I used to use for blurt or even how to send it here, old laptop died. But if I do decide to pump it in, I will think on this subject.

You can use Ionomy, Probit or Hive-Engine 👍

Ionomy, that was it, nice1, cheers.

Easy to see inactive witnesses on BeBlurt 😉 Another way to check if a witness can produce blocks is by looking at the node version, any witness with a node version under 0.8.1, such as 0.7.0, can't produce blocks due to incompatibility.

Thanks for that info buddy! 🍻

What a coincidence that you made a post about this. I've always been curious about this.

If a user votes for 1 witness when he has 100 BP, after a long time has passed he has 5000 BP and votes for another 1 witness. Will the first witness he voted for also get a vote value as the user's BP increases? Or the first witness that the user voted for will get the same vote value as the second witness right when the user votes on the second witness?

The weight of your witness vote grows organically with your rising Blurt Power. That means:

You vote 2 witnesses with your 100 BP: Each will recieve 50 BP (100 BP ÷ 2 votes). When you power up a further 100 BP, 50 BP will be added to each of your witness votes automatically. (now 200 BP ÷ 2 votes) and so on and so on.

Ok, I get it now.
So also if a user gets a delegation from another user, the BP value will be divided equally to all witnesses that are voted by the user. Vice versa when the delegation is revoked.

Thank you for the explanation.

Previously I thought that the value of our vote was calculated only at the value of our BP when voting.

Delegation doesn't count! Delegation stays as voting power with the delegatee! You cannot transfer witness voting power! Only your OWN Blurt power counts as voting power!

What's your motivation for being a witness?
Is it purely financial (no issue's with that) ?

Ideological ? (no issues with that either, but would question what ideology, if that's the reason)

Just interested, is all.
..'the why's' behind action... (the question for everything in life, to me) ...cheers matey.

There is a financial interest here of course, but it is not only that! I really like it here! I spend more time here than on FB and Insta for example. I guess it it's the people here and the fellow witnesses. There were a lot of quarrels amongst the witnesses in the past, but in general we have a good vibe going on at the moment.

Just like you, I was nuked on Hive and found a place to stay here on Blurt. I am very thankful for that and that is this cosy kinda feeling I have, when I am here... That's about it... :) Cheers bud! 🍻
