Embark with me on a thrilling exploration into the heart of Blurt's Communities evolution.
Welcome, fellow Blurtians!
In my last post, Some answers about the Blurt Blockchain, sparked by a conversation initiated by @offgridlife and then @justyy, which presented an in-depth analysis of accounts and posts since the creation of the Blurt blockchain, I received this comment from @freakeao:
One question related to the communities; how many users might be actively posting in the communities? how many posts are made in the communities vs. not in the communities?
This got me thinking that it was a great opportunity to revisit the implementation of the Nexus community module on the Blurt blockchain.
So, are you ready to uncover the secrets of Blurt's Communities evolution? Join me as we delve into the past, unravel the present, and glimpse into the future of Blurt's thriving ecosystem. The adventure awaits, dear reader. Are you ready to embark?
The story begins
A little over a year ago, @saboin and @techcoderx were working together to port the hivemind module from the Steem blockchain to the Blurt blockchain, giving birth to the Nexus module, which includes communities.
A few months later, as I started to participate in the evolution of the Nexus module and its integration into dBlurt (a client library for developers), I integrated it into the BeBlurt frontend.
In June 2023, I published the post COMMUNITIES Have Arrived on the Blurt Blockchain and BeBlurt App!, making BeBlurt the first Blurt frontend not only to offer post scheduling and push notifications but also communities on the Blurt blockchain.
By July, I began publishing analyses on the use of Communities, a start characterized by 19 Blurt Communities created, and 207 posts published in a community from 38 authors.
A year alone
Throughout the rest of 2023, BeBlurt remained the only Blurt frontend offering Communities. Despite significantly lower usage compared to the official Blurt Blog frontend, we witnessed Blurt communities evolving in tandem with BeBlurt's usage.
The number of communities grew over time, reaching 27 communities in October 2023 and 50 communities in January 2024, along with an increase in the number of posts, with 302 posts made by 35 distinct authors in October 2023 and 421 posts made by 42 distinct authors in January 2024.
The big change?
February 6, 2024, the big change, BeBlurt is no longer alone, with the publication of the post Communities Have Arrived on Blurt's Official Frontends and months of work by the @symbionts team on the official frontend, Blurt Blog now integrates Nexus and communities!
So, what are the numbers? After all, we're here to answer @freakeao's question.
As of today, the Blurt blockchain boasts 144 communities created!
This brings a wide variety of themes and potential appeal. With 544 different accounts subscribed to one or more communities, we can see the impact that communities have on the Blurt blockchain when we consider this figure in relation to the 850 different authors posting each month.
By combining the authors posting on BeBlurt and those on Blurt Blog, the only two production frontends using Nexus (Blurt One by @tekraze being in beta), we achieve a utilization rate of 83.7%. It is also worth noting that the new version of Blurt Blog has regained 10 points compared to October, where its utilization rate was 67%.
In terms of publications, there has also been a significant change. The introduction of communities on Blurt Blog has created a huge boost in the number of posts published in communities, reaching 254 distinct authors for 2,705 posts last month.
For comparison, last month saw 843 distinct authors publishing 12,392 posts. This means that community authors accounted for 30% of the total authors and 15% of the total posts.
Beneficiaries
When you publish in a community, the creator of that community benefits from the rewards generated by the post up to 3% (by adding the community account to the list of post beneficiaries). Therefore, I think it is also interesting to take a look at this aspect. First, from a global perspective with a graph of the total beneficiaries received by community owners per month:
As well as the top communities in terms of beneficiaries with this graph:
Conclusion
The introduction of communities has led to a significant increase in user engagement on the Blurt blockchain. This higher level of engagement indicates a growing and active community, which is essential for the long-term success of any blockchain platform.
Communities allow users to create and join groups based on shared interests, leading to a more diverse range of content on the platform. This diversity can attract a wider audience and make the platform more appealing to a variety of users.
Communities foster a sense of belonging and community among users, which can lead to stronger relationships and collaborations within the Blurt ecosystem. This community building aspect is crucial for creating a vibrant and sustainable platform.
Communities can act as hubs for content curation, where users can discover high-quality content related to their interests. This curation helps to surface valuable content and can improve the overall quality of posts on the platform.
What does the implementation of Communities on the Blurt blockchain teach us?
That the Blurt blockchain is not static; it is capable of evolving and taking directions thanks to the collaborative work of witnesses, RPC node owners, developers, and of course, you. Fortunately, because without purpose, without direction or evolution, a blockchain cannot survive.

How to support my work on Blurt
- Backing my Witness:
It only takes a click since you're entitled to 30 witness governance votes with your Blurt account. Even if I'm already in the top 20 and it won't generate more BLURT for me, it will secure my position, and it's always appreciated.

- Endorsing my Proposal:
As for a witness vote, it only takes a click to cast a governance vote. The detail of my proposal can be read here: https://beblurt.com/@nalexadre/proposal-what-can-you-expect-for-on-blurt-1709659725174

- Making a Difference with a Donation:
This blockchain is our community, and your donation, via a transfer to my @nalexadre account with "donation" in the memo, helps fuel ongoing initiatives.
Your active participation fuels these initiatives and ensures the continued growth of our Blurt community. Let's make a difference together!
thank you for the work you do on a constant basis, this analysis shows that it is necessary to be able to have alternatives that are novel and that can attract users.
We must continue to encourage the use of communities and support them.

Communities has been out for a while and I have not made a post in one. I'll be doing it soon. I also moved back to BlurtBlog recently; I use BeBlurt seldom.
I'll explore right now in search of some communities to join.
Maybe you can join the GAMERS & GAMING community or why not to create a Final Fantasy or RPG community ;)
I just joined! I'm considering making a community for @rosalestrust on Blurt. I'd like to see what comes from this.
Blurtlatam comunnity accepts a variety of content.
For sure, I use BlurtLatam primarily. I'm bouncing between front ends because I have multiple accounts on Blurt. lol
So the beneficiaries received by the community will go to the community owner's wallet, right? Or will the community have its own wallet?
The Blurt blockchain consists of two layers, with Nexus being the second layer. When you create a community, it starts by creating an account (e.g., "blurt-1xxxxx") on the first layer, from which a community is then established on the second layer. Therefore, the owner of the community is the "blurt-1xxxxx" account, which also receives the beneficiary rewards. This means that when you have a community, you need to connect on blurtwallet with this account to claim the rewards.
Thanks for your explanation. I just created a community as a gathering place for blurtarians with similar interests.
By acting directly in the community I built, I hope to better understand the blurt platform. Later I will make an official announcement post to inform the existence of this community.
