Children these days are all the time into competition and it becomes all the more difficult for them when their parents raise the bar of expectations much higher than their age capacity.
30 years ago, the scene was very different. There was competition but not to this level. When a child will finish school studies and get into university that is the time, they will start putting a thought on what it is that they want to pursue as their career. But nowadays by the age of 9 to 10 it starts; the parents start expecting the child to decide by that age what career they want to select and then they put them in for that extra training and classes.
Children are burdened with expectations of parents. Right from the toddler days these expectations start. If the child starts speaking late, they start panicking and take them for different therapies thinking their child has a problem. But I say they have a problem, not the child.
What is so much hurrying about for everything. Preparations for various entrance exams start from school days itself, because everyone wants their children to top and get admission in the best university. Settling for anything less is like below dignity. These little children have no play time during the day, they are whole day in back-to-back school, tuition, classes, homework, project work and what not.
You are definitely in awe when you look at such children, because they are like next to perfection, but in all of this their childhood is lost, their innocence is lost. They have forgotten to be like children, they have already participated in the race of life. The nature of competition has already been ingrained in them and they have started talking the same language of their parents. It's not their fault, it's the conditioning that starts right from the time they are born.
To get an admission in the best schools of my city, the preparation starts right from the time the child is born, so one can imagine the pressure the little baby has to go through. The world has changed so much in the last 15 to 20 years. I wish that we can relax a bit, slow down and take things gradually with the right age. A child of 7 to 8 years, preparing to go for NASA, or starting to learn coding, all of this sounds insane to me, but then this is the reality of today's world.
