State of Blurt: Updates, Hive-engine Changes, COAL List and Witness Voting

Dear Blurt community,

The new year has come and 2021 is behind us, Blurt achieved many victories this last year, from rebuilding all of its tech infrastructure, upgrading nodes for higher user capacity, listed on two Binance Smart Chain DEX'es; obtaining an official SWAP.BLURT listing on Hive-Engine and secured airdrops from Digchain, Gamestate, and potentially Another-1.

We also have cool Avatars that can be used as metaverse identities, along with many blog user interface and wallet enhancements provided by the foundation's diligent developers @tekraze and @saboin. @eastmael also arranged for Blurt a Dtube login and is working on a mobile keychain for Android and iOS.

There are likely some things we forgot to announce...oh yes...reblogs work now, finally ... and we have USD values on our blog posts!

Here are some short-term foundation updates for 2022.

Hive Engine - BLURT to be deprecated and replaced with SWAP.BLURT

You may have seen two BLURT tokens on Hive-engine.com or Tribaldex.com (alternative ui). Both tokens exist in tandem as users transition to using SWAP.BLURT, @yehey promised to keep withdrawals running until the end of December 2021 and he has kept this promise, the foundation will uphold its end and bestow upon @yehey a 100K Blurt Power bounty for the smooth transition and historical operation of the Blurtlink service.

Now that we have the official Engine team listing, users should only use SWAP.BLURT going forward and the old BLURT will be hidden from the Hive-Engine user interface by the end of this week.

COAL List

Following some complaints about Vote Trading Services (VTS) voting on plagiarised content, the blurtwallet.com user interface was updated to prevent users delegating to offending services. This was a cosmetic deterrence as delegations could still be done via Command Line (CLi), the denial of delegation at the front-end just sent a sentiment of reform while not immutably denying delegations which can still be done via other wallets and tools.

The community seemed satisfied with this outcome. In parallel to this, the foundation was working to re-instate the COAL list (Collaboratively Organised Abuse List), which was in force in 2020, but became defunct when there were front-end dependency issues. Since this was a previous feature, it did not occur to the foundation to announce or seek community input in this regard and was added as part of routine upgrades/fixes.

Users that steal the identities of others or post plagiarised content (PLG) are generally the ones listed on COAL. The effects are simple, in that the upvote button is removed from the author's posts and a warning sign is added to their Blog. This is again cosmetic and users that do not like this approach can use alternate frontends or start up their own.

As with all upgrades; if over time, it is found to not be effective or have adverse effects we will iterate.

Please note that blurt.blog is foundation operated and is a dapp layer product that we maintain and thus could be liable for if we do not take steps to moderate certain content from being displayed. The blockchain, however, remains uncensored and unpermissioned.

It is our desire that front-ends and apps become prolific across Blurt, much like how the community developer operated peakd.com interface became the defacto frontend for Hive, and hive.blog became the backup option; we would be pleased if this were to happen on Blurt. In fact, hundreds and thousands of Ui's are desirable so that Blurt can become unstoppable at the dapp-level. It would be cool seeing some ui's using Unstoppable Domains or Ethereum Name Service (ENS) etc.

Role of a Witness

The implementation of the COAL list brought to the fore that witnesses may be of the belief their role encompasses the dapp layer governance as well. Generally speaking, witnesses run the hardware infrastructure that operates the chain and should evaluate any code changes that require witness node upgrades (aka hard or soft forks), witnesses should also set block sizes and transaction fees and any other parameter in their control.

Witnesses are generally technical or should be able to operate their own nodes from the very detailed instructions our community provides, in some cases technical and non-technical users band together to create a witness, where one canvasses the community and the other handles the technical aspects.

Witnesses often run projects on the platforms they validate on, such as block explorers, rpc nodes, alternative user interfaces, dapps, scripts and tools. This is not generally mandatory but does help garner community popularity and votes.

Think of witnesses as a monetary policy committee that meets monthly to decide on interest rates which then filter down to the banks, they do not however get involved with bank software or how banks serve their customers. Witnesses can however have opinions on all aspects of the Blurt ecosystem (as can any community member) but should not demand consensus level voting for dapp-level feature implementation, which should rather be a community-wide debate rather than a witness-only decision.

Witnesses can however propose economic changes and could develop and test code that could incentivise or disincentivise actions on the blockchain, monetary-based incentives are desirable over chain-level ban-list approaches.

Resident mathematician @rycharde will be again looking into better economic models for Graphene chains and will offer some suggestions.

Foundation Removing Witness votes [Edit]

Update 18/01/2022 - It seems there was a misunderstanding on the original request to remove delegations. @double-u indicates he contacted @jacobgadikian asking when the foundation will remove its votes, Jacob understood this to be a request and discussed it with me, I agreed and so did some of the foundation members, however, @rycharde was not present and he came to know of this later and voted against with veto, citing the dangers of a hostile chain take-over, surprise forks and such. Since @rycharde is not in favour and since the original person requesting this, @double-u, no longer wishes for this to happen, we will table the foundation removal of protective witness votes pending future revaluation and discussion.

Further to the above issues, the foundation will be removing its votes from all witnesses in approx 72 hours from the time of this post. This move serves to show that the foundation aims to be impartial in governance matters. It does however leave consensus witnesses a bit more vulnerable, so we suggest that they campaign and build dapps and tools to gain community favour and votes. It is important to educate the community to vote for witnesses to increase participation and secure the chain.

We feel that this will stimulate healthy competition among witnesses and may lead to more apps being built on Blurt, along with more engaging governance discussions.

The foundation will be available to intervene should the chain come under attack, and unfortunately, such intervention will now have to be reactive as opposed to proactive.

In Closing

The foundation and I look forward to seeing Blurt develop and grow wings outside of foundation efforts. We believe placing more trust and control in the hands of the community will provide for the healthiest future for all.

Wishing the Blurt community a blessed new year of prosperity and peace!

Sincerely,

Really bad idea to remove all witness votes.
Being "reactive" usually means being too late.
This will leave Blurt open to the same coup as Steem.
And for what? A few loud voices! A few loud authoritarian voices that have manifestly shown they have no idea how the economic system works! (I will supply links if memory should fail.)
Why?

VTS is very little different to cliques voting each other. VTS is a symptom, not a cause - very similar to bidbots on Steem. They are all based on a fundamental issue in the economic model of voting. How is banning anything a form of "decentralisation"? laughable. COAL can be an interim solution to show that something is being done to at least stop rampant PLG. The real issue lies deep within the voting algorithm - the solution lies there, and that will require some fresh coding.

It's like there is an INFECTION in the Minds of Men with which they are never able to release their shackles and instead build their own when Freedom is too close...

There is a quote like that from... Peter Hitchens - caught it by accident watching a small video segment - he says there was a brief period in which freedom became real, and we (humans) didn't know what to do with it! I assume he meant somewhere between 1960 and 1980, maybe post-war. Even if that freedom was an illusion, I know people who were young adults in, say, 1960, who felt free.

Now we don't even have that illusion.

Actually, the freedoms were always conditional on "not interfering". If ever by accident or design, you started to "interfere" with the entrenched system, then you would be reminded that the system had enforcers. (This is really a western experience; I do know in the commie parts of the world your conformity was paramount.)

Agreed, nor do they understand Safe Harbor laws which a platform MUST adopt to be immune to punitive measures from authorities who have the power (because of lots of men with guns) to empty ones bank account and shut a site down.

Perhaps we should first clarify how decisions are made for our chain.

ach, I saw your reply in my notifications, but then replied to the "other" identical comment.

Perhaps we should first clarify how decisions are made for our chain.

I think we can all agree on that :-)
There is a vestigial module that was for SPS/DAO from Steem - it was supposed to be used to fund proposals but, if it can be activated, it can also be used for voting on proposals (with or without funding).

If that would prove difficult to reconstruct, then I see many chains using https://commonwealth.im/whyCommonwealth as a third-party proposal voting and management system.

As you have noted, not every proposal has to be just about HFs, and even posts or Discord just are not suitable for such a formal structure.

Gives me a chance to add a coda: there are many small techie tweaks that are done by a very small group of dedicated devs, most of them are to improve the user experience in small but important ways. This has left open the potential for "large tweaks" to slip through, with too many very similar and overlapping discord channels and groups, even I find some discussions pass me by coz they are taking place "elsewhere" - not in secret, just in one of the far too many channels!

Thanks sir for your positive comment.
It provides us encouragement to do work without any fear.
Nice sir 👍👍👍.
God bless you!

These are awesome developments. Well done @megadrive.

Now that we have the official Engine team listing, users should only use SWAP.BLURT going forward and the old BLURT will be hidden from the Hive-Engine user interface by the end of this week.

I wasn't aware of this development before the old blurt was hidden on the hive-engine. This made me loose my 1000 blurt tokens i bought on the hive-engine. The balance and value of my blurt token is still reflecting on my hivestats token balance with no withdrawal access. I wish i can recover my 1000blurt token for powerup I'll be glad.

All the same, well done for the awesome job done. I remember the previous moment i had trouble opening my blurt page before i resorted to holdon till the blurt website is fully back. Congratulations for the success once again.

Here is a vote for recovery of 341 Blurt

Make a post requesting recovery assistance from the community in upvotes for the balance

Ok, i will do just that. Thanks so much @megadrive

I have successfully made the post sir. Here is the link to the post;

Thank you for the upvote sir 🙏. I'm grateful

@megadrive please on making blurt transfer from hive engine to my blurt account. What am i to use as my username and memo?

Removing delegation system from here won't be good step...

We are happy with this review sir
@rycharde is absolutely right

Great work so far. Since I joined Blurt officially in October, a lot has truly happened. Several upgrades, several changes and a whole lot of improvements. I dare to say that I joined at the right time. All thanks to you @megadrive, and our tech guys - @saboin, @tekraze and @eastmael who make these happen.

For the witness part, I think I should run one soon. @zahidsun tried to put me through, but things fell apart, majorly due to lack of time on my side. Hopefully, I can get back to it.

And finally, has the @gamestate airdrop occured? I don't think I received something in that regard.

Thanks for being involved, no the @gamestate airdrop has not taken place yet, that will happen after we have successfully launched a few IDO's on Polygon and listed on Quickswap.

Very well explained on decision making. Yes, some decisions taken by the foundation are helpful.

I support the removal of votes and it will be good to see how all witnesses be after this.
I would also love to see more dapps.

Thanks

Any idea how I can get 4411 blurt out of hive engine before the weekend?

Blurt or swap.blurt ?

Blurt. Thanks in advance for any help.

you can use tribaldex echange option

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

Edit, with it not being visible on hive-engine, do you think it will still be visible on tribaldex?

Superb thank you very much.

My suggestion is to speak to @yehey and see if he will honour this withdrawal, his cut-off was the 31st Dec but he may assist a few more user claims.

After an extensive leave from BLURT I AM very happy to see how it is doing since last I used it. I am encouraged of a further developing platform where we can share our creations without fear of abusive downvotes and or censorship by higherpowered 'investors'. I have HIGH hopes to once again make BLURT my first place to blog and seek to GROW with more interactions and promotions. #Way2Grow

I would love to extend profound gratitude to @megadrive, @rycharde, @saboin, @double-u, @yehey, @tekraze, @jacobgadikian, @eastmael and every other person who has taken out time to keep the blurt community growing better and stronger every day. The achievements of 2021 are highly recommended and applaudable. And I believe with your team efforts 2022 will be even a greeter year. You have indeed provided a platform for we writers of all kinds to air out our expressions and have an audience to listen to us and even help us earn. Thank y'all

It's really nice to active "hands on" activity from the people who make Blurt possible, and especially in the area of containing spam and plagiarism, which is an annoyingly universal issue that doesn't just affect Blurt.

I'm hopeful that 2022 will be a good year for all! Hopefully it will also be a year where we get to see the Blurt token on more exchanges... which I think will help with the growth of the community. People will want to know that they have options when it comes to buying in. Hive-Engine is great, though... they keep adding more "external" tokens, which indirectly helps Blurt, too...

Here's to a great 2022!
=^..^=

Thanks for the update wishing to you and your family all the better for this new year.

Let’s move blurt to the moon, new ideas and development is coming…✌🏻

There are many good issues that have been happened in previous year. Blurt is growing rapidly. A believer of blurt success must be delighted to see such an extraordinary success of blurt.

To say about coal list, it is very necessary steps here on blurt as there are no downvote system. So to prevent any scamming, plagiarism it is very need to open coal list again.

Now I have a question to sir @megadrive, for every action like post, comment, follow, unfollow, upvote, downvote, reblurt, there have to pay fees of that user. I see the fees is slightly high. Basically for new users who get very small upvote but when they post, they have to pay more blurt. Yesterday one of my known person tells me that when he posted, he have to pay 2 blurt. But after 1 day of post time he have got only 1 blurt vote. A loss project. Can you please consider this issue. RC system thay is running on steemit and hive is good than this blury paying system I think. Hope you will focus on this. Thanks for everything.

The fee increase was temporary, witnesses did that due to the high amount of spam at the time, they will look at reducing the fees.

Blurt has added so much value to the lives of some people like myself. Personally, I now create content that is viewed and reacted towards.

Apart from that, I no have a voice; a public voice. I am ever grateful for the opportunity to be on this great and outstanding platform.

As an act of my appreciation, I am ever ready to help promote and abide by all that has to do with ensuring that Blurt grows and attains greater heights.

More grease to the elbows of all founders and developers of blurt.

Love ❤️ and light 💡.

Such clear and concise information. Thank you for the communication. I’ll always look back to this post when I get lost in my role as a witness. It really helps to have something written to go back to in times when hard decisions need to be made.

Is a great pleasure to be part of Blurt!
Wow Blurt have made awesome Achievements ,and I look to a greater achievements this year.
Thanks to the blurt foundation & developers who are working to move blurt forward.

Hello @megadrive We are happy that Blurt development grew tremendously in 2021 with so many initiatives and airdrops. Blurt foundation witness vote removal is a matter we feel should be reconsidered. A big Thank you to you, @saboin, @tekraze and @eastmael for all your contributions to keep blurt up and running.
We support every move that the team and witnesses deems fit or necessary to combat Plagiarism (PLG)

Thank you very much for the notification. I personally feel proud to be part of the Blurt family. Hopefully, we all hope that this blurt becomes one of the best of them. Amazing stuff happening on Blurt ecosystem. I want to power up atleast 100k Blurt soon. Blurt really needs more and more projects coming in. There should be a delegation system for supporting new projects here. That's how more and more daily users are going to increase. In fact I started posting once again on Blurt because of @actifit. And I'm more exciting things are coming Blurt way in coming days.

Thanks for your passion, sadly we had a delegation system which was badly abused, so we cant offer that again. But projects can still build on Blurt which is a great place to bootstrap a community .

Yeah ! I understand your view point but agree partially. Of course we all have different opinions which may turn out in different ways. For example, regarding the transaction fees on Blurt compared to other blockchains, It will prevent system abuse and let only serious people involve on blockchain but on the flip side it will be difficult to bring users until and unless they buy some Blurt and start engaging. I'm sure Blurt team has plans to strike right balance between these two.

And Yes! Completely agree with the other point. Legit projects can always grow along with right partnerships and I'm sure Blurt is one.

Nice to talk to you😀. This emoji development you know, ufff! No..not on any other blockchain...See you around!!

The developers of the blurt.blog platform especially @saboin @tekraze @eastmael @megadrive @double-u you guys have developed this platform even better. Plagiarism must be eradicated because it can harm other people. The existence of swap.blurt shows that this platform is already great, thanks for all your hard work developers. May your hard work get great results.

Blurt is developing day by day, i want to say that please don't make problems for the small users. I am also a small user around here. I know that you and your team knows better but increasing the fee will be problem for us. I want to stay in blurt, dont want to lose from here. Its a very good environment on blurt. Have a good day sir, you are taking good steps for blurt.

Hi, yes the fees was a temporary measure instituted by the witnesses to reduce spam content, it will likely be reduced.

That's so true and will be good for blurt by stopping spam. @megadrive thank you for all of your contribution, go on!!

There were many who didn't believe in BLURT. It is great to see the project success and come so far despite all the troubles. I have HODLed everything and I have add to that with posting articles, curating etc.

I wish the absolute best for the project and I wait for a day where BLURT becomes something knows as well as Substack or Medium.

I support your decision regarding the removal of foundation votes and making the competition fair for anyone who wants to be a witness.

You were never impartial before , blurt has always been fair and that's the best thing about blurt. I hope things will boost up in right direction from here.

Hi sir, @megadrive, I have been on Blurt for only 3 months, I love everything and I’m impressed by the updates and improvements I see happening. …Do you think I could maybe get your discord to engage you in a chat about something myself and many others believe will increase blurt value and overall activity on Blurt?

After a long time, I got your post to read.
It is said that "came late but came right"
You have explained all ups and downs in this post. What happened in previous year, and what will happen in this year. You have explained all aspects in details very nicely. Hope you will continue it and we will utilize from it.
Thank you very much sir for this beautiful post!

Good day everyone. I am a relatively new user of the Blurt blockchain, but even in such a short time I have noticed a lot of good and adequate people. Therefore, I want to say a big thank you to everyone that you are all here and it makes me very happy. Now a special thanks to the developers and witnesses who make our stay here cozy and comfortable. I don't think I forgot anyone. All good health and prosperity.

Well, this is really awesome news from the blurt community, if all these developments are very successful I believe #blurt will be preferred to its fellow blogging counterparts.

Thank you once again for the update.

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

Wow.. what a great achievements through the past time.. Blurt seems to be shining in one day than other blockchains because unlike other platforms, blurt have the freedom to talk any users about their ideas.

And I am really like about removing witness votes because the one who deserve the place should be selected from the community.

Not removing nodes but witness votes from foundation accounts, like you would yourself take back a witness vote

Sorry. typing mistakes.. I meant it's good to give the chance to the community to value their witnesses.

Dear Sir, I have learned a lot about Blurt. I hope it goes like this. Thanks to everyone in the Blurt community. They are all working hard to take Blurt forward. I wish everyone well

I’ll see about making a UI for the proposal system. I think it’s functional on the chain. We’re just missing the UI.

I think I concur with what @saboin said. Making a UI for the proposal system will be a very nice option! Though am not part of the development team but I found the discussion very interesting so I decided to stop by and make my own contribution. Thanks

I feel your pain on this. I also wish the remaining H.E. BLURT token holders will one day be able to cash out into whatever token. Maybe instead, a proposol of a community fund for compensation on this could be made. However, I do not see this happening st the moment, We have great devs, but only so many thus i am daying, not enough devs, not enough techies.

Blurt blackchain is still a wee baby, but a healthy one and with good parenting too. Yes I believe this chain will skyrocket.

I would sell it for Hive and buy BYT. (Blurt Yield Token); You earn almost 50% APR … paid every Sunday … you can use to buy more BYT

It is at 0.05 cent, so my $200 investment into them via hive is now worth a measly $28 as it stands.

Thanks for the feedback

Hi @megadrive how can we get information about Blurt Market Cap and current distrabution/largest accounts and current circulating supply.

Investors need to know about these important details. Thank you very much 🙂 -@Junglegirl

What a POWERFUL UPDATE !!!!
100% Legit info.

Soft censorship is okay when practiced with good ethics and logic. Good job.

A very useful development to welcome new technology. This is something new I know. Hopefully it can be developed according to plan.

Thanks to the developers, hopefully what is developed can be useful for the benefit of the people.

I'm quite new but after reading your whole post, I knew that so many things happened in previous year and a lot of things will be occurred in this year. Thank you sir for theses information!

Can I ask a question do we have something here that protects the no downvote thing, like if someone rich just came and bought it and bought their own witnesses can they add it?
