Hey Blurt! Amor Fati

in blurt •  4 years ago

Hey Blurt People, my name is Dan Dell'uomo. Just wanted to share a Stoic principle I've been thinking about recently: "Amor Fati." This is Latin for "Love Fate." To me, this quote is about accepting that life quite often won't go the way you want, and that unexpected things will constantly come up...and to learn to love what's happening to you, and find the good in everything.

Looking forward to connecting!

I'm generally stoic but the last 5 months have really tested me. The task in front of me is computer programming, but the work I am actually doing is mostly technical support. The torture is wanting to do that coding and staring at a screenful of code and wanting to jump off the balcony next to me.

I am a coder too! The Stoics may say to try to focus on something positive in your situation and something to be grateful for. Cool username by the way...my friend and I were making gin drinks called 'Lokis' the other night haha

That cocktail was named after me. It was invented by one of the founders of this project, @jacobgadikian... And why did such a peculiar cocktail get named after me? Because I'm a bit too partial to drinking, I especially like Gin like especially Bombay Sapphire (I hear there is better, though, some name involving monkeys) and most importantly:

I am salty like the green juice of a jar of olives...

I never quite understood exactly where this adjective 'salty' came from. Something about tears and stinging wounds, idk.
